tiny

By Chris Scott Barr

Once in a while, the size of technology just amazes me. Flash drives were awesome when they first came out, because it was a storage drive about the size of a keychain. Inevitably those have shrank until they’re smaller than the USB connector itself. Well here’s a new one that is rediculously small, and manages to somehow pack in a card reader to boot.

This tiny little USB device will read your MicroSD cards, and hold a whopping 16GB at the same time. I’m pretty sure the only reason there is a plastic bit is so that you have something to grab when you want to remove it. This would be perfect for a netbook, you could insert it and forget about it. Of course that small size and high capacity doesn’t come cheap. The 16GB version will set you back around $160, though you could settle for a 4GB version for just $35.

  1. This is already obsolete. I have a 32 GB USB pen drive I bought on eBay for $49.95. A few months later, I found a 64 GB one for under $30.00. WHy would I pay $160 for a hard drive that is less reliable, less rugged, and with smaller capacity?

  2. I bought one for €2,- at dealextreme.com. The 16GB SD card costed €20,-.
It’s amazing how it is so small, but can read micro-sd, sd and about 3 other cards.

  3. If you read the original product page, it's pretty clear that there is no built in memory. What you're buying is a thumbnail MicroSD card reader with a bundled 16GB MicroSD card. Not quite as impressive.

  4. How long have you had these drives? Cheap flash drives from China like those sold on eBay are notorious for being DOA, or simply working very, very poorly.

  5. Seems a little bit expensive and gimicky (you can probably get a similar USB drive for a lot less), but it's still technically impressive.

  6. I hate it when Mc Donalds advertises on the internet, makes me damn hungry. And why is it thre is never a black hand holding the food huh? Is it because it's dirty? I decree that Mc Donalds is racist.
