If you’re like me you’d rather hear your own music than the witty banter of your local DJs when you wake up at the crack of noon. One option is to get a CD-based alarm clock but in this era of new-fangled MP3s and such I bet most people’s CD collections are either buried in a box somewhere or sold off. Oddly enough it’s taken a lot longer than it should have for alarm clocks to natively support digital music files like MP3s.

I originally thought this Timex clock radio had a rather chunky looking antenna sticking up out of it but it turns out that’s actually a USB flash drive. Winner of a 2007 CES Innovation Award this clock radio from SDI Technologies is the first I’ve seen to actually support digital music files without the need for an attached MP3 player like an iPod. Instead the alarm will read MP3s off of an SD card or a USB flash drive.

Since the alarm clock has only just been revealed I haven’t been able to find any specific information on when or where it will be released.
