I could never figure it out. Every time I’d drop an egg in boiling water, the darn thing would crack and spill its insides, only to end up looking like a tumor. Seems, the trick, is to poke a little hole in the shell.

Course, poking holes in shells, just like that, willy-nilly, can be a little tricky. Which is why this little device form Zyliss is so useful. Just plop an egg on top, press the little grey button and a pin will shoot out and poke a hole.

For whatever reason, there’s no price listed on the website, but there you have it anyway. Story VIA Kitchen Contraptions.

  1. Just lower the egg onto the water with a spoon and save yourself the money and space of a new gadget which you will probably forget to use anyway.

  2. This gadget is not to keep an egg from breaking up when you put it in hot water (which you are not suppose to do; start with cold water) It is to make eggs more pealable. If you use a egg pricker you will never again have an egg where you can’t get the shell off without taking half the egg with it.
