So I thought that yesterday’s $100k watch was expensive. I was wrong. This watch is three times that price, and in a way, is much cooler.

Made by de Grisogono, it is a watch that only displays time… sometimes.

Patterned on the reflex camera constructional principle, where a split-second opening captures prized instants on film, the OCCHIO RIPETIZIONE MINUTI features a twelve-blade diaphragm mechanism. It opens to reveal the repeater movement for the duration of the chiming period then shuts again to shield the movement’s complex mechanisms from prying looks – providing as it does so a fleeting instant of mechanical magic.

The diaphragm’s twelve blades retract simultaneously the instant the Minute Repeater is engaged and close immediately after its three-gong chimes have struck hours, quarters and minutes. During that time, the wearer of an OCCHIO RIPETIZIONE MINUTI will have had the pleasure of admiring the overall quality and superb finish of an exceptional movement comprising 414 parts including 37 jewels.

37 jewels indeed, not to mention 18k gold or 950 platinum.

It should be noted that only 50 will be made. Check out the press release here. Story VIA Bookofjoe.
