You want to get online, but there’s no hotspot nearby. What can you do? Well, if you live in Korea, and you’re within reach of a cellular tower, you can simply insert the CCU-550 from CMOTech, a USB key that doubles as a CDMA EV-DO modem, with a theoretical surf speed of 2.4Mbps. For those of you unfamiliar with all this, here’s a quick refresher

CDMA is the American alternative to GSM, and CDMA 1x is the alternative for W-CDMA or UMTS or 3G. And in that CDMA 1x you have EV-DO (Evolution Data Only), which can be compared to GPRS but then at 2.4Mbps.

Makes more sense now, no?

Korea only. For now.

  1. EV-DO USB Flash Drive

During my time at CES I got my EV-DO cherry popped and since then I am all about EV-DO. This USB flash drive, the CCU-550 from CMOTech, can connect you to the internet anywhere that there is a cellular signal….

  3. HI There,

I am a resident of Rwanda (+250), I bought a PCMCIA EV-DO card while I had an older Laptop with the PCMCIA slot; but now, I have bought a new generation Laptop Computer that hasn’t got the PCMCIA Slot. In addition to the CDMA EV-DO, do you have 3G GPRS-EDGE Modems?

I urgently need a USB version of the same. Recently, I came accross a guy that had a USB version of the EV-DO, it had the following inscriptions on it “TARCCU-550 EV-DO USB MODEM”. I got interested in that product but then, I cannot lay my hands on it in Africa.

How can I get one? How much would it cost? I can order for several if it is possible.

    Thank you very much.

    Regards,
