What with 3GSM shaking its technolicious buns down in Barcelona, we’re awash with truckloads of cellphone related news. Of the countless handsets announced, this little offering from BenQ-Siemens caught my attention: the EF51 musicphone. Aside from the rather-simple-yet-elegant design, there are a couple of nice features.
The music phone features (besides FM radio), a player for music files in MP3, WMA, AAC and AAC+ formats. Users can select songs with voice commands. BenQ calls this Speech-to-Music. The music player buttons are on a flip cover. Under the cover, the phone keys are hidden.
Other features of the EF51 include 3D sound, 6-band equalizer, 1.6 inch TFT display with 262k colors, miniSD card slot, USB, Bluetooth and a 1.3MP digital camera.
I feel that the era of the true music phone might be slowly approaching, and you have to wonder what Apple’s reaction will be. But that’s another story for another day.
There’s no word on price and the EF51 will be available in Q2/2006 in white and black.
