Given the state of paranoia in most of the world right now it seems like a great time to be in the spy gadget business. And from Spycatcher comes one of the better listening devices I’ve come across. Disguised as a stylish table lamp it includes a sensitive microphone capable of picking up conversations going on within 15 to 20 meters of it. But what’s really impressive is the fact that it can be monitored pretty much anywhere on the planet.
You see instead of using a short-range wireless signal the lamp is actually GSM based (dual-band) which means you can dial into it from any phone on the planet. Now the lamp obviously has to be setup in an area with GSM coverage but other than that it doesn’t get much easier to use than this.
The GSM Table Lamp is available from Spycatcher for about $1,670 and while the UK based website claims the lamp is legal for use within the EU I’m not 100% sure about the rest of the world.
