I know those little yellow sponges you cram in your ears aren’t the most advanced way to protect your hearing, but these Sonic Defenders make them look like they date back to the age of cavemen. When worn the SureFire EP-3 ear plugs let you hear safe and routine sounds like normal conversation, but potentially harmful sounds above 80dB are safely reduced via the company’s special design that incorporates the patented ‘Hocks Noise Braker’ filter. They also feature a small removable stopper that will block out nearly all sounds when you want some real peace and quiet, and they’re available for a mere $12.95 directly from SureFire.

I'd totally buy these instead of those ridiculously expensive noise canceling headphones for my next flight.
I have a set of these, and have battled with tinnitus after playing loud music and a band without hearing protection. i have to say these are some of the best you can buy without actually getting plugs molded.
I don't need this but I want it.
I think these are an amazing idea. I recently took my toddler to a NASCAR event, and we had to strap this HUGE pair of noise-canceling headphones on her tiny little head; she looked like a slightly deflated balloon. :oP Heck, I looked ridiculous in them, too. These would have been much more comfortable!
There is a headset I bought that does the same thing, for a bit more and they surround the ears, because I hate thing inside my ear.

So when are they going to have ones that filter out prescribed sounds.. like a barking dog, or car alarms, or Palin's voice.
