Steel Wallet

By Evan Ackerman

A wallet is one of those things that, although it’s omnipresent in many of our lives, we just don’t put that much thought into. It’s a good thing somebody does think about it, or New York designer Theo Stewart-Stand wouldn’t have created the steel wallet. Contrary to what it sounds like, it’s not made out of solid steel. It’s actually a woven steel fabric that’s strong and durable, “as smooth as silk but doesn’t stretch, is cool to the touch, and can’t be stained.” A fringe benefit of the steel weave is that the wallet acts as a Faraday cage, which blocks RFID transmissions, protecting you from remote hacking of stuff like no-swipe credit cards. Cost: $75.
