Launch Kontrol - Remote Firework Launcher (Images courtesy Maplin)

Every year, around the 4th of July, local news broadcasts seemed to be filled with stories about fireworks mishaps. And while I would never refer to fireworks as a ‘safe’ pastime, with a little bit of caution you can easily avoid any serious injuries. But why take any risk at all when this remote fireworks lighter/launcher turns the safety knob all the way to 11? It’s very reminiscent of the Estes model rocket kits I had as a kid, but instead of sticking an igniter into the bottom of a rocket engine, you attach an ‘E-clip’ to the fuse on your fireworks. Using a wireless remote you can then set off up to 5 different fireworks at one time, and all it basically does is trigger the ‘E-clip’ to burn up, which in turn lights the fuse from a safe distance. The launch kit which comes with 15 ‘E-clips’ will set you back about $35 from Maplin, while replacement packs of 15 ‘E-clips’ run about $17.

  1. Why couldn't they just make something that is reusable instead of having to buy new replacement e-clips. I understand it is all about marketing for them, but be reasonable. I don't want to spend $200 dollars just on e-clips to light off a whole bunch of rockets or let my kid use this to be safe from them going off in his face.
