If you’re too tired in the morning to operate such an advanced piece of modern technology as a coffee maker, but the only thing that will wake you up is a hot cup of joe, then I’ve got 2 1/2 words for you, Speak n’ Brew. From Primula Products the 10 cup coffee maker is apparently the world’s first to recognize voice commands that can be used to set the clock or program the brew time. And since focusing on dials, buttons or an LCD display can be quite a chore after you’ve rolled out of bed, the Speak n’ Brew will even talk back to you, letting you know when the coffee’s ready or confirming your audible commands. $79.99 from Primula’s website.

  1. Well, actually it's 2 1/3 words. 'n' is only 1/3 of “and”. Where in god's name is your journalistic integrity?!

Every time I see a “voice controlled” device, I'm reminded of the scene in L.A. Story when Steve Martin is testing out his new voice-activated phone. He tells the phone to “Dial Mom.” The phone proceeds to call Domino's Pizza…

  2. Advancements in technology is great and all, but can't we invest the advancements into something better? Something that will bring us forward in the world, not give us something to make us more fat and lazy.

  3. I did that yesterday. I was on my cell phone and I did a voice command. “Call Mommy” instead it called this woman that I didn't want to speak with and have her number in my phone so I can ignore the call when I see who it is. *sighs* it was awful… Though I doubt there is commands on the coffee maker to make you wish you never opened your mouth.
