Popular Science Best Of What's New (Images courtesy Popular Science)

Before all these fancy blogs came along, Popular Science was my primary source for gadget and technology news. At the end of every year the magazine’s writers would put together a ‘Best of What’s New’ list and to celebrate the BOWN’s 20th anniversary, the PopSci website has taken a look back at some of the best and worst items to ever make the list.

This includes items like the first handheld GPS receiver, the first bluetooth equipped phone and even the iPhone’s grandfather, the Apple Newton. On the flip side you’ll also find technologies that have yet to really catch on like 3D home video cameras or hologram based memory devices.
