Poptopia is making a splash as the first scented mobile game in the market, although I’m not sure how the added smells enrich the gaming experience. The game itself is relatively simple enough. All you have to do is pop kernels into popcorn to feed the on-screen mouth and keep going for as long as you can.
The scent is care of the Pop Dongle, which contains enough essence of pop corn to emit the delicious scent of popcorn 500 to 1,000 times. Unfortunately, only a few people will be able to experience the game with the accompanying scents, as the dongles aren’t available for sale. The Pop Dongles are only up for bidding on eBay, with previous listings bringing in bids of up to $315.
That seems like an atrocious price to pay for a mobile gaming accessory, but it’s all for a good cause: 100% of the proceeds from the auctions will go to the American Red Cross. To bid or to find out more about the Pop Dongle, you can check out the listing here.
