Parrot Digital Messaging Light Switch Cover (Image courtesy WorldStart)By Andrew Liszewski

My old man was the stereotypical father who would wander the house all day and night turning off TVs and lights in the empty rooms. I’d like to believe his message of conserving electricity was inspired by a desire to be environmental friendly before it became trendy, but I know it mostly came as a result of the monthly power bill. While the constant nagging eventually got through to us, I have to wonder if it would have been more effective if we had these bizarre talking light switches installed around the house.

Each one has a small built-in speaker that will play back a short message whenever the switch is flipped on or off. The recorded message can be up to 20 seconds in length and can even be locked, preventing someone else from changing or deleting it. The switch cover can be installed over any traditional light switches, but since it’s powered by 4 AAA batteries I imagine it’s going to be quite a bit thicker and stick out from the wall a bit more.

You can find it WorldStart.com for $12.97.
