I’m not completely sold on the idea of carrying around yet another device just in case something else runs out of power. But if your Blackberry or iPod dying while you’re away from home is one of your biggest fears at least this new USB charger from Panasonic is relatively compact.
The Pocket Power is just slightly larger than a pair of AA batteries which is what the device uses as its own power source. It’s charged with an included cradle (another one?) and can then be used to charge any USB powered device. It can even deal with gadgets from all over the world since it can automatically adjust the power output for any connected device. The 2 AA batteries that power the Pocket Charger can even be removed to power something like a digital camera or other device that doesn’t use a built-in rechargeable battery. That feature alone makes this one of the more flexible USB chargers I’ve seen so far.
The Pocket Power is set to go on sale in Japan on July 1st and I wouldn’t be surprised if it made its way to North America sometime thereafter.
