There are tons of Bluetooth speakers on the market, but that doesn’t mean they’re all equal. We’ve spent the last couple of weeks playing with the Adv.Sound 993 Bluetooth Speaker, and have come away impressed with its craftsmanship, its sound quality, battery life, and overall value. Read on for our brief, but full impressions.

The Build
The first striking thing about the Adv.Sound 993 Bluetooth Speaker is how (pleasantly) dense it feels in your hand. The CNC anodized Aluminum body solidly encases the speakers and electronics, and provides the device with a superior quality enclosure. Nothing moves, nothing rattles; it just feels like one solid brick of audio equipment. It’s relatively compact, measuring in at 7.9″ X 2.9″ X 2.1″, but weighs in at 1.8 lbs! That’s because the company managed to fit two 37mm high-performance Neodymium drivers, two passive bass radiators, as well as a proprietary Digital Sound Processing (DSP), and enough battery to last up to 12 hours on a single charge.

The rubber base slightly angles the speakers upwards when you put it down on a surface, and we suspect the sheer heft of the unit combined with the flat rubber base contribute to transmitting some of the audio vibrations to whatever surface the 993 is on, amplifying the acoustic performance.

The Performance
Speaking of performance: how do they sound? Well, it’s hard to convey that through words, but we were blown away with the audio quality coming out of such a small package. Even though they’re rated at 36W, the speakers can blast loud enough to properly fill a relatively large room with full, booming sound. The bass is surprisingly punchy, while the highs and mids come through with enough crispness to do even the most sophisticated songs justice. Connecting your device is a snap, and once you’ve done so, you can play back your tunes for hours on end without a charge. We didn’t run a proper battery life test, but we have absolutely no trouble believing the company’s 12 hour rating.

Conclusion
If you’re in the market for a good quality Bluetooth speaker, the Adv.Sound 993 is a great candidate. Impressively solid build quality, fantastic sound, and inexhaustible battery life combine to create more than enough value to justify its Super Early Bird $119 asking price. Even the $129 Early Bird, or $149 latecomer pricing is fair. The 993 stacks up competitively against its main rival, the Bose SoundLink Mini 2 and should give its owners years of enjoyment. We’re even having trouble finding flaws with it, since it legitimately does everything a device like it should do, and does it well.
