OGCC Day 5 (Image property of OhGizmo!)While my love of snow has dwindled over the years (once it became my responsibility to shovel the stuff) I still like the idea of a picturesque white Christmas. And that’s probably why I’m always on the look out for some clever way to ensure there’s plenty of white stuff kicking around come Christmas morning, even if it’s completely fake. So if Mother Nature doesn’t deliver the goods, might I suggest this Professional Motion Picture Snow Machine as a more reliable alternative.

It looks like your average fog machine, but instead of smoke oil, it uses a patented snow solution that’s mixed with distilled water to produce realistic looking snowflakes that don’t melt. The machine’s 600-watt motor and integrated fan propel the flakes up to 30 feet, and with the wired remote you can change the artificial weather from a light snowfall to heavy flurries at the push of a button. Unfortunately while it’s running the snow machine is as loud as a vacuum cleaner (about 63 decibels) so using it indoors could be problematic if you plan to have a conversation with your holiday houseguests. (Or advantageous depending on how you look at it.)

Sadly the Professional Motion Picture Snow Machine also comes with a motion picture budget sized price tag of $1,499.95 from Hammacher Schlemmer. And a replacement 8 oz. bottle of concentrated snow solution is an extra $124.95. So I guess I’ll just stick with a bag of flour and a hair dryer this year.
