The venerable padlock has remained roughly the same for a long time, and Noke hopes to bring it into the 21st century with a design that requires absolutely no key. This digital padlock uses Bluetooth and a smartphone application instead, so that you can unlock it simply by walking up to it. You can also send a temporary digital key to a friend, so they can unlock it as well. This is great if you’re away from your stuff and need someone else to retrieve an item. And finally, if your phone runs out of battery, you can still unlock it by tapping a predefined pattern directly on the Noke.

The device is currently doing the Kickstarter dance, where a $59 pledge will get you an early-bird version.
