I haven’t had a carbonated beverage in about 4 years now, and one of the reasons I stopped drinking them was their less than healthy ingredients list. But it’s obvious I’m not the only one to give them up since Pepsi has gone out of their way to create a new healthy version of their sugar water called Raw.

While regular Pepsi contains ingredients like fructose corn syrup, sugar, artificial colors, phosphoric acid, caffeine and citric acid, Pepsi Raw has only natural ingredients like apple extract, caramel coloring, coffee leaf, tantaric acid from grapes, gum arabic from acacia trees, cane sugar and sparkling water. While the color and fizz of Raw is less intense than regular Pepsi, the new ingredients do result in a slight reduction in calories. (About 10 calories less in a 300ml bottle.)

At the moment Pepsi Raw will only be served in select bars and clubs in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Brighton, Birmingham, Leeds and Liverpool but a wider roll out is expected later this year.

  1. Raw? In what universe does a processed item like this count as raw? It may be marginally less harmful than other sodas, but it’s still a soda. By definition, isn’t soda bad for you?
