This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Moviestorm. All opinions are 100% mine.

Moviestorm is in the business of helping you make 3D movies, relatively easily, at home. It’s an interesting concept. They provide you with software that runs on your home computer, but isn’t resource intensive; it’ll run on PCs with a 1.5Ghz processor, Windows (XP, Vista & Windows 7), any old 3D video card and as little as 1GB of RAM. The videos it produces won’t be competing with Pixar anytime soon, nor does the company try to position their product as such. No, this isn’t some professional grade stuff, but it is rather full featured. And it is surprising just how versatile it can be.

Moviestorm comes with tons of pre-designed content which allows you to build your own set down to some pretty precise specifications. You can also create your own content packs, though if you’re feeling uninspired you’re only ever a download away from more packs found in their marketplace. These content packs or “user-made mods” are sometimes free, sometimes have to be bought outright, and can also be rented.

Once you’re done creating your set, you can move on to creating your characters. As you can imagine, there’s quite a bit of flexibility there as well. Think of it a little like customizing Sims, placing them on a set, placing cameras and really creating your own 3D movie. Once created, your film belongs to you and you can share it at will, as long as you credit Moviestorm somewhere on the movie.

Pricing is as follows: you can buy a lifetime membership for $249. Or, you can go month by month ($8), 3-months ($20) or a year ($80).

Now keep in mind that “It’s aimed at amateurs wanting to make movies for fun. It’s not a high-end tool like Max or Maya. You don’t need to have any animation or 3D modeling experience – it works like a game, and it’s as easy as playing The Sims. [Their] customers include kids and senior citizens!”

  1. This is like Lionhead Studio's PC game “The Movies,” except it removes the extraneous game elements and gets right down to the business of movie making or machinima. I haven't been impressed by the demo videos on the site. Making a movie with it would be fun, but I don't think it's anything that'll be impressing the ladies.

The fees for it seem outlandish. $249 for a lifetime fee! I understand a lot of hard work and a lot of love went into the production of this product, but I don't see this being in most people's price range. If it were prices like an ordinary non-MMO PC game, then I could see more people buying it. You think they would be happy with the extra money from DLC.
