Hammacher Schlemmer iPod Remote With Display (Image courtesy Hammacher Schlemmer)By Andrew Liszewski

For me the iPod is an extremely portable way to carry a large portion of my music collection, while the entire collection itself sits safely on my home PC. So I was a little surprised to see this iPod remote from Hammacher Schlemmer that’s easily half the size of the iPod itself! Why would someone bother carrying a remote this big?

Well as the Hammacher Schlemmer website points out, this remote is specifically aimed at persons who dock their iPods to a home stereo and still want full control of their music wherever they are in the house. Simply attach the slim transmitter (available in black or white) to the docking port of the iPod and it will send information about the current song, artist and playlist to the remotes LCD screen. It also allows the remote to adjust the volume, skip tracks and everything else a remote should be able to do with a wireless range up to 150 feet, even through walls, floors and ceilings.

The iPod Remote with Display is available from Hammacher Schlemmer for $139.95.

  1. iPod Remote Control With A LCD…

The Hammacher Schlemmer (full marks to you for pronouncing it correctly) iPod remote control looks like a MP3 player in itself. This remote is unique because it has a built-in LCD screen, however the design doesn?t look so hot! The……

  2. So, I assume that the remote module that plugs into the docking port has a pass-through port of its own? Otherwise it kind of defeats that whole “keep your iPod docked” scenario.

  3. Hmm, the actual description on the Hammacher Schlemmer site mentions nothing about using this with an iPod that is docked for use with a home stereo system. “Connected to” yes, but not “docked”. So I guess they’re expecting you to run the headphone output to your stereo input? What kind of idiot does that?
