While I’d like to believe that most people buy the MacBook Air for its slim form factor, I’m sure there are plenty who pick one up simply because of its sleek design. And if you happen to be in that latter group, Iomega wants you to know that their eGo Helium external drive is designed to be the perfect visual complement to your MacBook Air. At the moment it’s only available in a 320GB version, but if you opted for the SSD option in your Air you’ll definitely appreciate the extra storage. The Helium also features a tapered anodized aluminum body that’s just 0.63 inches thick and weighs about 7 ounces, and the only connector is a USB port which it also uses to receive power. It’s even got Iomega’s ‘Drop Guard’ technology that protects the drive from drops onto industrial carpeting from heights up to about 4 feet, though I guess dropping it on concrete is a different story.

All in all the eGo Helium actually looks pretty slick, except for the fact that it bears the Iomega name. I’m afraid after the Zip drive ‘click of death’ fiasco from a few years ago the company is still on my ‘list’ and even if they came out with a 50TB USB flash drive tomorrow for $1.99 I still wouldn’t touch their products. But don’t let my grudges stop you from picking one up. The Iomega eGo Helium is available from their for $149.99.
