Besides not having a pilot’s license and the cost factor the other reason I don’t own a plane is the inconvenience of having to store it at the local airport. If I could simply land and then park in my own driveway I think I’d be more inclined to take the plunge. Mike Ciochetti felt the same way except he’s an actual pilot and already has his own plane. The former race car driver was injured in a crash at Talladega which put an end to his NASCAR career so instead he decided to turn a private piece of land he’d bought into a fly-in neighborhood for pilots called Heaven’s Landing.
The 635 acre gated community already has a concrete runway over 5,000 feet in length which should accommodate a wide variety of aircraft. There are over 200 estate sized lots available in the neighborhood which start at around $125,000. Actual homes can run anywhere from $500,000 up to $3,000,000, must be at least 2,500 square feet and have to conform to strict design guidelines.
If someone asked me where Heaven was located my first guess wouldn’t be on the side of a mountain just outside of Clayton, Georgia but I’m pretty sure since they like to throw around the term ‘gated community’ they won’t have much trouble selling out.

I was certainly suprised to see my bit of Heaven on OhGizmo! I can’t wait until I can retire and afford to build on on e of my two lots at Heaven’s Landing. It truly is a beautiful place.
This is not the first fly in neigborhood. I know of one in WPB FL that was built several years ago.
Christian Swarovski of Swarovski Crystal had a modest 3 bedroom house there just for the purpose of flying his planes in and out. Of course he had a huge home down the coast next door to Jack Nicholas for when he and his wife would spend time in the states.

That’s nothing- actor John Travolta has a house with its own private runway and taxiway that are large enough to accomodate his boeing 707 jet (4 engines)
He parks the big jet on a circle in front of his house- like a driveway. You can find it on google earth if you look around florida in the right area..
