EOS Mixtape Watch (Image property OhGizmo!)
By Andrew Liszewski

The month of giving is already upon us, so we figured it was time for another giveaway. This time around we’ve got something that will particularly appeal to those of us who grew up in the 80’s, when pirating sharing music meant hooking up a couple of cassette players together for an hour or so. But that doesn’t mean this EOS Mixtape watch won’t appeal to those of you who missed the 80’s, not at all. It’s got a distinct retro charm that will appeal to even those of you who were forced to share their music via cold, heartless digital methods.

We first brought you the EOS Mixtape watch back in June when scrambling around for Christmas presents was probably the least of your worries. But now, thanks to our friends at Shop Adorn, we’ve not only had a chance to spend a little time with the watch, but we’re also giving one away which could mean one less person to buy for on your Christmas shopping list. (Or keep it for yourself!) The full contest details including how to enter are available after the jump, but first let’s take a closer look at the watch…

Now I’m not going to pretend that the EOS Mixtape employs the latest cutting edge watch technologies like Bluetooth, the ability to set itself via radio time broadcasts or anything like that. Because it can’t. This watch is all about style, though like I’ve already said, it does make a statement about technology. Specifically that while the audio cassette tape might be nearly extinct, it’s still fondly remembered.

As you can see the Mixtape’s biggest claim-to-fame is the miniature, detailed cassette tape case which actually looks a bit like those tiny cassettes used in old-school answering machines or dictation recorders. On the spindle on the right, which is almost empty, you’ll find the requisite and subtle hour and minute hands for telling time. But what really sells the watch is that both of the spindles appear to turn as they tick away the seconds, creating a rather convincing effect that the cassette is being played. And like I said in my original post; “since the faux spindle of tape will never make it over to the other side, you don’t ever have to worry about flipping it over.”

On the back of the watch is a stainless steel metal plate emblazoned with the watch’s moniker, and as you can see the black strap is made from genuine leather, giving the watch a classy look you just can’t get from plastic or rubber.

And come on! Last but definitely not least, the EOS Mixtape comes in this wicked plastic case that serves as a stylish place to store and display the watch. Or as the perfect gift box should you decide to give it to someone on Christmas morning.

The watch is available from Shop Adorn in the black on black finish seen above, but also a gold cassette with a black strap or a metallic blue cassette with a white strap. They each run $135, but thanks to the generous people at Shop Adorn we’ll be giving one away, in your choice of finish too! So here’s the details on how to win:

How to enter: Like with most of our contests all you need to do is leave a comment on this article. And while you’re welcome to post whatever you want (keeping it clean of course) feel free to spread the holiday cheer. Or if you’re so inspired, let us know what tracks your ideal Christmas mixtape would include. To better your chances you can leave one comment every day until the giveaway’s close, and if you do, please make your comments substantially different each time. It keeps things interesting for us.

Timeframe: The contest ends on Sunday December 12, 2010, at midnight. My time. So if you’re not sure when that is specifically given the different time zones, get your comments in early. Don’t drag your feet until the last second! At that time the comments will be closed and the winner will be chosen via Random.org.

Eligibility: While we love all of our readers around the world equally, we’re afraid this contest is limited to those living in the Unites States or Canada who are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry.

Good luck!!

  1. I listened to my first music on an radio, and then they invented a thing called a television and music was a lot better because you could see who was singing. The first portable music I had was a battery powered 8-track and I thought that was Fantastic. Then came the little cassette player which made it easier to carry around different tapes much easier. The only trouble with it was that you had to take it out and turn it over, but some of the tapes were much longer and played more music, and I found out later on that you could even record your own music on them. I still have many cassettes and an old player that still works, the 8-track is long gone but I wish I still had it. I'm not much into the new gadgets for listening to music, they are too 'futuristic' for me and I don't understand how to use them. This watch would bring back many memories of my younger years.

  2. I love it….I grew up in the eighties, and this is exactly the kind of thing I remember…Remember how much space those tapes took up? I had a separate tape case for my car that weighed in a about 10 lbs. This is sweet. Would love to wear this.

  3. The last cassette I can remember buying was actually a cassette single or Cassingle by 'Young and Restless'

    Side A) Poison Ivy

    Side B) B Girls

    Good times!

  4. I created my first mixed tape in 1972, some music included was:

    American Pie, Don McLean

The Candy Man, Sammy Davis Jr.

    My Ding-A-Ling, Chuck Berry

    Ben, Michael Jackson

A Horse With No Name, America

    Popcorn, Hot Butter

Nights In White Satin, Moody Blues

Sunshine (Go Away Today), Jonathan Edwards

    Rocket Man, Elton John

    Rockin' Robin, Michael Jackson

    Morning Has Broken, Cat Stevens

Bang a Gong (Get It On), T. Rex

    Puppy Love, Donny Osmond

  5. I love your contests, I dont have a watch, Im a Newf so hopefully you pick me. Its an extra half hour ahead here. Please pic me. I love winning stuff and stuff loves being won by me.

  6. A walrus gave me a mix tape in the dream I had last night, and for some reason all the songs were in Persian, except Eye of the Tiger which for some reason made me start up a work out montage, and then I woke up.

  7. My exgirlfriend hated the fact that I loved my cassette tapes more than her so, she decided to burn my entire collection in a jealous rage. It was very sad experience but also a very happy one because, a flaming ember shot onto a brush pile nearby and her whole trailer burnt to the ground with her in it!
    I'll miss those those tapes ) ;

  8. I still want this super bad yo! I want to wear this so my kids ask, “what the hell is that thing supposed to be?” yeah thats right… our music players had moving parts n'shi*
