In my grandpa’s attic you will find, among other things, 40 years worth of National Geographic Magazine. Let me tell you, that takes up a lot of room. If you’re looking for something very specific in one of the issues, you can bet that it’s going to take a little while to find (mostly because they’re all stored in boxes). Of course if you want the information from every single issue right at your fingertips, there is a much better way to do it.

National Geographic has decided to release the content from every single issue (starting way back in 1888) in a convenient digital format. Every map, photo and article is contained on a special 160GB hard drive. Surprisingly, it only takes up 60GB, so they’ve setup the drive to have an extra 100GB partition to store your own personal files. There’s also a bonus DVD which contains tips on taking better photographs and a behind-the-scenes look at how National Geographic is put together. At $200, this is no doubt worth every penny.

  1. In granpa's attic I found Mayfair Magazine . Its a British adult magazine. Once while staying with grandparents, I saw him erm..having too much fun with the magazines. *shudder*

  2. I read this from Mashable this morning and was like “I know someone who's getting this next Christmas/Birthday/Major Holiday” I mean, they love history and facts. Nation geographic is one of their reads. I can't wait to pick one up for them.

  3. I hope the quality is a lot better than the Nat Geo that I have on CD's. The scanned pages are of very low quality, making reading content quite a chore. Pictures also suffer the same indignity–they are VERY LOW QUALITY. I'm very disappointed in the product which I received as a gift from my wife about 10 years ago. I expected much better from Nat Geo.

  4. I hope so too, with the storage capacity of the external drive, I hope they utilize it to the max. Allowing hires images to be stored and I can understand older content losing a bit of quality, but I would hope they would have the newest mags on file for print and can just move them over. 10 years is a good amount of time to fix things like that. What a let down it would be to find out it hasn't improved. How many CD's came in the collection?

  5. Did you hear about the fellow that was talking to his buddy, when he said, “I don't know what to get my wife for her birthday. She has everything, and besides, she can afford to buy anything she wants. So, I'm stumped.”

His buddy said, “I have an idea. Why don't you make up a certificate that says she can have two hours of great sex, any way she wants it. She'll probably be thrilled!” So the first fella did just that.

The next day his buddy asked, “Well, did you take my suggestion? How did it turn out?”

“She loved it. She jumped up, thanked me, kissed me on the mouth, and ran out the door yelling, 'I'll see you in two hours'.”

    Thanks

  6. Dear Editor,

I have two brothers, one works at Microsoft, the other was sentenced to death in the gas chamber.

My mother died of insanity when I was three years old, my two sisters are prostitutes and my father sells drugs.

Recently, I met a girl who was released from a reformatory where she served time for smothering her illegitimate child to death.

I love this girl very much and want to marry her.

    My problem is this:

Shall I tell her about my brother who works at Microsoft?

    Sincerely,
    Larry

    respect

  7. There was once a young man who, in his youth, professed his desire to become a great writer.

When asked to define “great” he said, “I want to write stuff that the whole world will read, stuff that people will react to on a truly emotional level, stuff that will make them scream, cry, howl in pain and anger!”

He now works for Microsoft, writing error messages.

    Thanks
