Whenever you use your kettle to make coffee, you boil the entire contents. You actually use much less than that, usually, leaving a good portion of that spent energy to go to waste. Now, I don’t hug trees in my spare time, but it seems like a good idea to try and streamline the process a little, if only to save on evergy bills.
That’s exactly what the Eco Kettle does. You fill it up normally, pouring in about 1.5litres of water, but it’ll only boil as much as you need in one go. A measuring button allows you to release anything from one cup to the entire contents into a separate reservoir for boiling. You get savings in the order of 31%, which doesn’t amount to a whole lot coming from a little kettle, but the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs(DEFRA) says: “If everyone boiled only the water they needed to make a cup of tea instead of ‘filling’ the kettle every time, we could save enough electricity to run practically all the street lighting in the U.K.”
