Duke Nukem Forever has been the butt of so many jokes over the years that it’s hard to come up with something original. The game has been in development for 13 years and 3D realms has little more than a few screenshots and teasers to show for it. A solid release date has been impossible to pin down. Until now that it. The official release date is……NEVER.

No, that’s not a joke, it’s the truth. Unless a magical Duke Nukem fairy comes along and finishes the game, it isn’t happening. How do I know? Because 3D Realms has closed their doors for good. You’ll never guess why they shut down. Get this, it’s due to “funding issues.” Oh really? You’ve been working on a game for 13 years and you just realized that you’re out of money? Thankfully we have an exclusive look at the 3D Realms business plan:

Step 1: Announce a game we’ll never finish.

Step 2: ?

Step 3: Profit

I’m almost a little sad to hear that things ended this way. I loved referencing DNF whenever I wanted to humorously allude to something that will never happen. And I was still hoping that Duke Nukem Forever would get released on the Phantom. See what I mean? Give something a couple of years and you guys have no idea what I’m talking about.

  1. lol I use that underpants gnome reference all the time. OnLive seems to be the predicessor of the Phantom console (which lived up to its name…). It will be interesting to see if OnLive suffers the same fate. The theory of an uber console is great, but the execution is the tricky part…
