If for some reason you’ve ever looked at Philip’s Ambilight TVs and thought to yourself it was actually a good idea then this might appeal to you. While doing a bit of home improvement this guy thought it would be a great idea to incorporate some homebrew Ambilight effects into his new fireplace.

So with 12 RGB LED strips he purchased from China, some interconnecting wires made from old IDE cables, a 60W 12V power supply and an advanced RGB controller he now has a fireplace that can be set to match any mood. The lights can be configured to any color thanks to the red, blue and green LEDs and the RGB controller allows for many different effects from smooth transitions to fire effects that are controllable via an infrared remote.

Unfortunately since this was a homebrew project there is no ‘kit’ to order but the designer does provide his email address and will be happy to answer any questions about how it was put together.
