The PS3 hasn’t exactly become the runaway success SONY had hoped, and at the moment it seems like being able to play Blu-Ray DVDs is its most profitable feature. And if that’s the reason you picked one up you might also be interested in the Darklite DVD Remote from Messiah Entertainment.

It matches your PS3 with a sleek, black design and includes a ‘control-ring’ that’s not unlike the one found on a certain non-SONY MP3 player. The basic DVD playback functions can be controlled with the ring and a center button, but secondary functions can also be accessed with a slide-out keypad. The Darklite remote also uses a lithium-ion battery which is recharged via its receiver that connects directly to one of the PS3’s USB ports.

The best part is that Messiah Entertainment is only charging $29.99 for the Darklite, when they could easily get away with a $100+ price tag based on looks alone.

  1. Truly sleek design is black controls that are labelled in black on a black background, and a little black light lights up black to let you know you’ve done it.

  2. “and at the moment it seems like being able to play Blu-Ray DVDs is its most profitable feature”

Its selling more consoles every month worldwide than the Xbox 360 you dimwit.

  3. And that’s because of the incredible lineup of games? Or the fact that it has a Blu-Ray drive? Either way I don’t think Sony had imagined that a slightly upgraded GameCube with motion controls would outsell their PS3.

  4. How about this?

“Either way I don’t think Nintendo had imagined that Sony PS2 would still outsell their Wii.”

How difficult is it to understand, Wii and PS3 are not competing in the same arena. People that buy Wii are not typical gamers, they would not have been buying PS3 (not for many years anyway).

If you want to compare Wii against something, compare it against the 7 year old PS2, which is outselling Wii. Sony are competing against the 360 with the PS3, and it’s quckly clawing back it’s lost year.

What’s most worrying, is that it seems any old idiot can start a blog about gaming, claiming to be an expert.

  5. Ha, well not surprisingly it seems all you have to do is mention the PS3 in a manner that doesn’t blindingly praise its “greatness” to bring out the disgruntled fanboys.

It’s kind of hard to deny (though some are making a great effort) that PS3 sales figures are well behind the Wii and 360. (http://www.vgchartz.com/) Why that is I don’t know, but I’m sure the PS3 will soon find a killer title/price point that will help its sales numbers. It’s great that the PS2 is still selling well, but it’s also very obvious that every person who bought a PS2 has not felt it necessary to upgrade to the PS3 as of yet. Again, I don’t know the exact reason why, but they just haven’t, or the PS3 would easily be ahead when it came to sales.

And I’m not sure what makes someone a gaming ‘expert’ but I’ve been a gamer since the C64 days and have enjoyed titles on every single console that’s come out since then. I guess to be an ‘expert’ I need to pick a single console and pretend that anything else that tries to compete with it has no merit and is not worth buying. No matter what any crazy ‘facts’ might claim.
