After visiting a few local scrap yards and dumps Alex Gadsden was pretty surprised to see just how much stuff was simply being thrown away and wasted. However instead of simply complaining about the problem he decided to try and make something useful out of a pile of discarded washing machines he found.

It took a bit of trial and error during construction but in the end he managed to come up with the Cyclean which is exactly what it looks like, a bicycle-powered washing machine. The workings of the machine itself are pretty simple. The motor and other electronics were all stripped out and the drum was connected to a universal joint attached to a wheelbarrow wheel which gets spun by the back tire of a bicycle. Besides being very eco-friendly (I guess depending on the detergents used) you also get a great workout while doing the laundry.

While there has been a lot of interest in the Cyclean, at this time Alex is still looking for an eco-friendly investor before he can start building the machines to sell to the public.
