Come on, guys… Making dinner in the microwave might have been ok back in college, but a self-respecting adult needs to be able to cook up a proper steak now and then. And if you don’t know how, you can at least try to fake it. The Cinder Sensing Cooker can help in that department. It kind of looks like a George Foreman grill, but that’s where the similarities end. See, the Cinder is a smart countertop grill. For one, it features a host of sensors that keep track of the heat generated by the non-stick cooking surfaces to within a quarter of a degree Fahrenheit, up to its surface-searing maximum of 550F. This, along with complex control algorithms, allows it to automate the entire cooking process. You simply toss your steak in there (the device automatically measures its thickness), launch an app on your phone and point to how you’d like it cooked. Cinder does the rest. Even better, it gives you an estimate to how long it’ll be before it’s ready so you don’t even have to stick around as it does its thing. Oh, and if you’re not ready when the timer runs out? No problem, Cinder can hold the steak at the perfect temperature for up to two hours! It’s the convenience of sous-vide cooking, with none of the bagging, water-soaking annoyances.

And you’re not limited to steaks, of course. Want to caramelize some onions? Sure, no problem. Fry some veggies? Go ahead! If it works as advertised, Cinder looks to be the perfect kitchen companion. The only issue is you’ll have to wait to get yours. The company is taking pre-orders now for $500 with delivery in 2016! But there’s a Beta-testing program that you can sign up for if you pre-order before March 20th; you’re not guaranteed a spot but it’s worth a shot.
