Humans are tropical animals. We really aren’t designed for cold weather, and we have to wear impractical amounts of clothing to go outdoors in the winter when you get much beyond the 23 degrees of latitude. So instead of wearing five extra layers, it makes a lot more sense to just wear one extra layer that provides all the heat you need. Venture’s line of self-heating fleece jackets and pants contain integrated single-sided heat pads that’ll keep you toasty warm, even in ridiculously cold places like Canada.
Venture jackets have a heating pad in the back, and two across the chest. The heating units themselves are barely noticeable in the fabric of the jacket, but from what I could tell when I tried it out, they’re quite powerful. Although you do have to carry a battery pack, it’s lithium and doesn’t weigh much, and there’s a remote control that lets you select the temperature for each heating zone individually. You should get 5-10 hours per charge, and you can recharge the jacket from a standard wall outlet. Venture also makes fleece-lined heated cargo pants if you need a head to toe solution.
The jackets are all high quality outerwear, and it shows in the price. Expect to pay $150 – $200 for one.

There are much, much better solutions that have been on the market for over a decade, as long as you can get a source of 12v power.

I didn't mean “designed” in that way… More like, we originally evolved as tropical animals and have not physically adapted to deal with cold temperatures without the assistance of technology. Though, I s'pose you could argue that that IS adaptation…

I recently used +Venture's vest up snowboarding in Maine and loved it (x-mas gift)! I set it on low while out on the slopes and cranked it up in between runs. There are tons of companies out there, and probably more to come next Christmas but I'm sticking with these guys.

We make a 12V line as well, including lamb skin power sports gloves, insole warmers, jacket and pants liners… These products have heating elements all over (even the fleece collar in the jacket liner!) and the elements are just as hard to distinguish as in our battery powered stuff.
We also have battery powered ski gloves, seat covers, and are coming out with glove liners, mittens possibly, etc…

There are definitely a lot of companies out there, something you might not know and only discover once you've immersed yourself in the world of heated clothing… who am I kidding… haha, nobody really immerses themselves besides those in the industry of heated clothing, I suppose. Am

Yeah, the MET5 was definitely not as innovative… instead of putting their heating panels throughout the jacket, they were so naive as to follow the exhaustive research on the efficacy of instead focusing two large heating panels to warm the chest?
When large military grants co-fund Natick Lab research in huge sums and time, and you follow the opposite of their conclusions, you need to question the wisdom of that decision. All I know is, the MET5 might have broke every 6 weeks, but at least when it worked, it made sense, and the controls didn't look like something I stole from a hospital bed. You guys know what you're doing, but aren't living up to your potential talents, and that is a huge let down. The MET5 could make me feel like cold was obsolete at zero degrees F in seconds outside, with a wind chill, and no liner. The Venture jacket? if it's under 40 degrees F, I am advised to warm it up for “5 minutes.” And because max temp is required pretty much constantly unless it's like 50 degrees out, comparing battery times to the MET5 is impossible.
The MET5 would require a high setting for like 30 seconds max before 90% of the time, and without a liner or pre-heating, you'd want to use it at half-power mode. Jacket was better form-fitting and insulated, without any added bulk. Even a few cm can make the difference of trapping heat and losing it, and your demographic should be fit+slim enough to make the whole concept make sense anyhow.
