Going off grid always requires some planning, and fortunately there are lots of accessories to help you keep your gadgets powered in those situations. The various offerings range from hydrogen fuel cells, to solar chargers, and now you can add hydro power to the list. The Blue Freedom device is a small power-generating turbine that you place in a nearby stream. As the water flows through the impeller, it generates enough power to charge its own 5,000 mAh battery, with which you can then power your electronics. 1 hour in a stream generates enough electricity to power your phone for 10h. At least these are the numbers the company is providing, though we suppose that’s an approximation. In any case, it’s a cool product and a $179 pledge will get you one with delivery in October of this year.
