Automated Plant Watering System (Image courtesy Hammacher Schlemmer)By Andrew Liszewski

Sure plants might be nice to have around for both health and aesthetic reasons (or so I’ve been told) but they ask for so much in return. Besides requiring the blinds to be left open for sunlight they also need to be watered sometimes two or three times a week. Personally that’s not a commitment I’m willing to make.

However those plant lovers reading this will be happy to hear that at least the watering side of things can soon be forgotten. (I’m afraid the whole ‘needing sunlight’ thing is not going anywhere though.) The Automatic Plant Watering system from Hammacher Schlemmer will water up to 20 plants for up to 40 days without the need for external power or water thanks to a built-in reservoir and the use of a single 9-volt battery. The dripper hoses are placed in each plant and then attached to a 32-foot master hose that connects to the watering system itself.

The Automatic Plant Watering system is available from Hammacher Schlemmer for $64.95 but at the moment seems to be sold out.
