I thoroughly enjoy 3D films when it’s done properly, but for 3D to become something more than just a novelty, there has to be a way to get rid of those polarized glasses. And that’s where innovations like 3M’s new optical film comes into play. It features small, dome-shaped lenses on the surface of the film combined with prism-like structures on the underside to create a 3D effect that is visible with the naked eye.
Now unfortunately the film can’t just be applied to any LCD giving it instant 3D capabilities. The display has to have independently controlled LED edge lighting on the left and right side which is used to distinguish the different images meant for the left and right eye. However, the film allows the LCD to be easily switched between 2D and 3D modes, and has already gone into production for small and medium sized displays.

It's that or they could make those red and blue glasses a bit more stylish.
I like this, It means we are getting closer to those holo-images from Star Wars and the likes. Those will be the days.
They already have holographic motion displays. However, I understand what you're shooting for. Popular Mechanics predicted holographic TV when I was a kid. They said we would have a room where the display would be in the center and it would be life size. We could walk around it and view it from different angles and actually interact with it. This is already being done on a smaller scale. I think this type of technology will explode.
I like 3d, but I hope the direction and storyboarding of the films improve. I'm tired of everyone in 3d films tripping and spilling whatever they're carrying, or someone saying “what's that?” and twirling their finger in my face.
