USB Film Kit Lets You Act Like A Star

By Jonathan Kimak

Webcams, especially the cheaper ones, usually have problems in low light areas. The Hollywood Web Gear however, gives you both a webcam and USB powered light to make you shine. To add a further sense of self importance the camera and light are modeled after the vintage lighting used in old movies.

The camera supports both Windows and Mac operating systems. There is no listed resolution for the camera and coupled with the fact that the camera is only $18 and the light is $9 it means that while you will be able to use the camera in low light situations, your friends may just see you as a well lit blur.

Retractable USB Webcam Saves On Space

By Luke Anderson

You might have noticed that I enjoy communicating via the written word. Those that know me find that I’d much rather send an instant message or email, than talk on the phone or video conference. I’m not really sure why, but I just seem to communicate better online when I can’t be seen or heard. However, some need to have a webcam with them on trips for one reason or another, and for those that don’t want to add to the weight of their laptop case (and don’t have a cam on their notebook), you might want to check out this tiny USB webcam.

I can bet that this won’t be the most high-quality cam on the market, however, you can at least be happy knowing that it’s one of the smallest. What really makes this little device shine is the retractable cord. While that might not seem like a big deal, just imagine trying to wrap up the USB cord on your average webcam. Frankly, the less stray cords you have in your bag the better. It’ll only set you back around $21, so if you need something very basic, this might be worth considering.

Tie Fighter Webcam For The Chique Geek

By Jonathan Kimak

I suppose if you use a webcam often enough then you might as well make it look better than the standard and plain looking ball shaped webcams. This webcam from Wesco Limited has the camera and mic hidden beneath the shell of a Imperial Tie Fighter Advanced X1. For those of you not in the know, that’s the Tie Fighter Darth Vader used in Episode IV.

In addition to looking snazy the webcam also has two laser canons that light up and emit authentic sounds taken from the Star Wars movies. I’m not quite sure how flashing lights and sound effects will help you during your online conversations. I guess they’re for those times when you don’t have anyone to talk to and you just want to pick up the Tie Fighter and play with it. Of course if I did that I would probably be making the laser noises myself.

The price is around $42.
