Yes, it is Friday. While you’re counting down the hours to 5pm, here’s a cool slow motion video of a water balloon hitting the ground, but not bursting. It’s completely unrelated to gadgets, but darn if it isn’t fascinating.
Having recently purchased a 37 inch HDTV, I’m in the market for the best way to bring higher definition content to it. I’m about to buy the Ziova CS-505, but now that I’ve seen the TrekStor MovieStation, I’m reconsidering. It’s basically just a hard drive, with media player hardware thrown in. You plug it into your PC and fill the drive up with whatever video content you’ve got, then plug it to your TV and watch it. It handles a variety of formats (MPEG-1 (VCD), MPEG-2 (SVCD, KVCD, DVD), IFO, VOB, DivX3, DivX5, XviD), and it can upscale them up to 1080i. Sadly there is no HDMI output, so you have to use component cables and either Digital optic (Toslink), analog stereo (Cinch) audio connection. And it’s not networkable, so you have to shuttle back and forth between TV and PC. The drive comes in sizes ranging from 250GB up to 500GB, and prices $300 and $400.
Of course, this device alone is inferior to the Ziova CS-505 (which does all this, and more, but streaming over your network), but I own an Xbox 360. Used in conjunction with the MovieStation, I may just be able to cover all my bases (since the Xbox 360 upscales DVDs over the VGA connection). Well… except for true HD content, but that’s easily solved with the inexpensive HD-DVD drive for the 360.

If there’s anything more fun than riding a roller coaster, it’s watching a roller coaster plow through a large crowd, at high speed. Trust us.

It’s called Pronto for a simple reason: you can put it on in two seconds flat. Even less if you’re in a hurry. Gone are the days of killing the mood in the name of protection. Gone are the clumsy drunken fumbles with a slippery packaging and the awkward nervous glances when you drop the damn thing on the bed, in the dark. The packaging for the Pronto is designed in such a way that two quick snaps split it down the middle and then serve as handles to unroll. And before you know it, the thing is on, and so is your game.
Words can’t possibly describe this well enough. So, we’re including two videos after the jump for your viewing enjoyment. It’s fairly safe for work, unless your boss is easily offended and passed out during sex ed.
The only problem with these is that they seem to be available in South Africa only, at least for now.
We know a bunch of you are just dying to get your hands on the Wii. Wii understand (yeah, we know it’s an old pun). Until the 19th (you do know it’s coming out Nov. 19, right?), you can keep yourself happy by looking at as much Wii pr0n as you can fit on an 8 hour day. So, today we present to you Matt C. from IGN showing us how the Wii interface looks and what all options you can mess with. It’s a ten minute video, so get your popcorn. But if you just can’t get enough of this stuff, it should be fun.
