What Happens If Superman Punches You In Real Life? (Spoiler: You Can’t Just Shake It Off)

Comic book nerd? Physics nerd? Both? Awesome! The video above is going to make you grin ear to ear for five minutes. It’s an engaging breakdown of what would happen if the Man of Steel were to apply his fist to your face, in reality.

Hospital Creates Superhero Fantasy To Soothe Children Undergoing Chemotherapy

kids-cancer-center-superhero-superformula

This story is blowing up online, and we can understand why. There’s very few things sadder than sick children, so when news that A.C.Camargo Cancer Center in São Paulo, Brazil had teamed up with Warner Bros. to create a genius program for cancer-stricken kids, the world took notice. They’ve decked out the entire ward in superhero paraphernalia, making kids feel as though they’re not really sick, only “regenerating their powers”. Stuff like this can go a long way to boost morale:

Covers for intravenous bags were constructed based on characters from the Justice League, creating…a child-friendly version of the treatment. Co-developed with doctors, the covers are easy to sterilize and handle and meet all hospital hygiene standards.

(The) experience went far beyond the covers by also providing a new look to the entire Children’s Ward: the game room was turned into the Hall of Justice, corridors and doors were decorated in the same theme, and the exterior acquired an exclusive entrance for these little heroes.

As any good cancer doctor will tell you, the most important step in fighting the disease is believing in a cure.

Boy do we wish that outside the box thinking like this happened more often; we’re pretty sure that sick kids stateside would love a program like this.

Microsoft Takes Some Long Overdue Jabs At Apple In Ad

Screen Shot 2013-05-29 at 10.24.19 PM

This ad has been floating around for about a week, but in case you haven’t seen it, you should. It’s a fun, lighthearted attempt by Microsoft to point out the iPad’s shortcomings. And it’s right on point. It’s reminiscent of Apple’s award-winning “I’m a Mac” ads in accuracy, yet different in its delivery. We’re not completely sold on a Surface yet, but that’s mostly because we haven’t gotten past seeing tablets as much more than entertainment consumption devices, rather than productivity machines. But maybe it’s time that changed, and the below ad sure has us thinking.

Wanna Take Closeup Shots With Google Glass? Prepare To Look Stupid

glass-grovo-parody

One of the most popular features of Google Glass is its ability to take a picture at a moment’s notice. You never have to miss that perfect picture while you fumble for your phone and try to get the camera application started; just say the words “Glass, take a picture” (or even perhaps one day just wink) and it’s done. And that’s all fine and dandy of course as long as you’re taking shots from a reasonable distance. But if you’re in an artistic mood and decide you want to go in for the closeup shot, or the “creative angle” shot… you’re going to look pretty darn strange in the process. How strange? Just watch the hilarious video below for an idea.

Video: That Belly Landing In Newark? Yeah, There’s A Grainy Video

k-bigpic

You guys might have heard about the US Airways Express Flight 4560 that landed on its belly last week. It was carrying 31 passengers plus crew, and through the skillful piloting of Captain Edward Powers, was able to land safely despite not having been able to deploy its landing gear. Well, there’s a video of the feat, albeit one apparently shot from the Newark terminal on a Nokia flip phone from 2001. Or a potato. Or something. Point is, you see very little, but it’s impressive nonetheless.

A few more details about the flight. On approach to Newark, Captain Powers noticed the landing gear wasn’t lowering properly. Even after repeated attempts, nothing was to be done. So the decision was made to retract fully and attempt a belly landing, but not before circling the airport for an hour to empty the fuel reserves and minimize the risk of a fire.

So while things don’t quite always work out, it’s reassuring to know that belly landings can be done and aren’t an automatic death sentence.

Video: Instant Ice

The video above shows a pretty dramatic example of supercooling at work. This is what happens when you cool water below its freezing point, but the water lacks any nucleation sites that are necessary to seed ice crystals. In other words, for water to turn to ice, it requires the presence of solid particles around which to start forming crystals. If the water is pure enough, you can take it down to −48.3 °C (−55 °F) while still in liquid form. But as soon as you pour it out onto something solid, the above happens.

Science.

Ridiculously Fast-Footed Dance Dance Revolution Player

japanese-ddr-kid-wheeeeeeee

Yeah, you’d think DDR news to be old news. And normally you’d be right: who on earth hasn’t seen the videos of these (usually Asian) players dancing around faster than the eye can see? And yet, we think it worthwhile to show you the above vid, in case you haven’t seen it already in the 9 months it’s been out. Why? Because this right here is the motherlode, the crack-cocaine-on-crystal-meth of DDR videos, the Grand Poobah of I-can’t-believe-his-feet-just-did-that videos. It’s remarkable that a human being is able to process information at such a speed, let alone move its body in response.

Super Safe-Looking Human Powered Ferris Wheel

Let us (the Internet sometimes being a random rather than efficient engine of discovery), bring you a video from almost 4 years ago, but only now discovered by your faithful editors. It’s a mind-bending clip of a human-powered Ferris wheel in a place that looks like maybe India, although we’re just guessing. We’re particularly fond of the apparent lack of any instinct of self-preservation displayed by some of the fools who hurl themselves into the air in a bid to both propel the wheel and give themselves a bit of an adrenaline rush in the process (we’re looking at you, guy in a white shirt…). Just watch and think about all the lawsuits if this was in the US of A, then giggle a bit. We did.
