One of the reasons that I bought my Nikon D80 a few years back was because it could use the SD and SDHC cards that I already had laying around. I liked the looks and features of the Sony Alpha line but didn’t want to have to go with MemoryStick for storage and the other available storage media for DSLRs was too expensive.

I had to give up some write performance for my choice, but it was better than the alternatives. SanDisk has now unveiled a new SDHC card that complies with the new Class 10 specifications that offer speeds of 30Mbps for reads and writes.

The 32GB of space can store 160 minutes of AVCHD video at 1920 x 1080 with a 24Mbps data transfer rate. The card is also capable of storing 2500 RAW format images. SanDisk says that the card will ship in August at an undisclosed price. The other SanDisk Extreme SDHC cards will also be bumped up to Class 10 specs.

Do you ever save data to your phone’s external storage and think that it goes too slow? Maybe you think that you need a faster microSDHC. Honestly, I doubt it. Chances are that your internet connection on your phone is just slow. However, if you’re dumping 4GB of music onto a microSDHC card, you might do well with something a little faster. SanDisk has the perfect new cards for you.

SanDisk has introduced their Mobile Ultra cards, which include 2-8GB versions of both microSDHC and Memory Stick Micro. These cards will run anywhere from $35 to $130 depending on the size and type of card you choose.

If I told you that there were a ton of USB flash drives on the market, it would be a great understatement. It seems that everyone and their brother has a great idea for a cool-looking drive. Unfortunately this leads to many drives being sold that are well, ugly. Then again ugly to one is beautiful to another. Here’s an interesting USB necklace that I just can’t make up my mind about.

This interesting necklace from Sandisk is a hand-made gold pendant (sorry, we don’t know how many carats the gold is) with an Onyx center and a tiny diamond (again, no carat information). The diamond marks the handle which you’ll use to pull out the flash drive. The drive itself will contain somewhere between 4 and 12GB of storage. As for the price, it was apparently too high for them to mention at the show.

Today SanDisk announced the availability of its new 8GB microSDHC card worldwide. The 8GB M2 card is also available today worldwide. SanDisk says that the 8GB cards can store up to 2000 songs, around 5000 photos, or up to 5-hours of high-quality MPEG4 video. To launch the new cards SanDisk is having an exclusive event tonight on the Sun Set Strip in Los Angeles, California that will use three of the most famous nightclubs in California at the same time.

The clubs include the Key Club, The Roxy Theater, and the Viper Room. Performances from Linkin Park, Common, The Crystal Method, Cut Chemist and Z-Trip will be seen. Invited guests will capture the party on their mobile phones, no doubt using the 8GB memory cards. The 8GB microSDHC card will sell for $139.99 and the 8GB M2 card will retail for $149.99.
