Wink Glasses Fog Up To Prevent Computer Vision Syndrome

Wink Glasses

A lot of people who use computers end up with dry eyes because they don’t blink as much as they should. Attempting to correct that and encourage users to blink at regular intervals are the Wink Glasses. The lenses fog up and become opaque for a tenth to two tenths of a second every ten seconds, forcing the wearer to blink or wink in the process.

The glasses prevent more than just the discomfort from dry eyes. It also prevents computer vision syndrome, which is caused by “focusing the eyes on a computer display for uninterrupted periods of time.” People with CVS report have reported headaches, eye redness, and even double vision, which makes the whole thing a complete pain to have.

Bulletproof Suit Looks Just Like Normal Suit

Garrison-bulletproof-suit

It’s hard to imagine the kinds of scenarios where a bulletproof suit would be needed, aside from James Bond-esque assignments, but we’re not foolish enough to believe they don’t exist. If you’re one of those people, you’ll probably know that such suits usually look somewhat conspicuous, giving up some comfort in exchange for protection. But the suits from Garrison Bespoke are different. They use a special carbon nanotube fabric that’s soft and supple under normal circumstances, but instantly hardens on impact from an exterior projectile. Last year, the company worked with the US 19th Special Forces in developing it, and the material is 50% lighter than the Kevlar normally used in similar applications. It reportedly stopped .22 and .40 caliber bullets in field tests.

Of course such protection won’t come cheap, with the individually tailored suits starting at $20,000. Given that the target market is oil executives and high finance bigwigs, we suspect they’ll be more than able to settle this particular bill.

Damascus Steel Pocket Knife Is Stunning

pocket-knife-damascus-steel-1

If you’re going to get a pocket knife and have the budget, why not get something that looks ridiculously good at the same time? The above Damascus Pocket Knife is allegedly made from 120 layers of Swedish rose stainless damascus steel. We say alleged because there is no consensus that modern Damascus Steel making methods produce the exact metal from historic times. But there’s no denying that it’s similar to the famed metal, is certainly pretty to look at, and is very likely to be as much if not stronger than the older stuff. Aside from the special metal, there’s a carbon fiber handle and the entire thing measures 4 1/8″ folded, and 6 7/8″ open. But beauty has a price, and this knife will ding your account to the tune of $500.

Self Defense Night Stand Provides All-Around Bedside Protection

Self Defense Night Stand

It’s important to have protection by your bedside. Not that kind of protection, in case that’s what you’re thinking. What I mean is protection for physical attacks from burglars who want to rob you dry when you’re at your most defenseless. You could get a gun, a stun gun, or stock up your bedside drawer with pepper spray.

Or you can skip the bullets and go for brute force with the Self Defense Night Stand. It’s a bedside table where the base is actually a baseball bat, and where the flat surface is actually a shield. It’s a regular old bedside table the rest of the time when all is well and good.

The way I see it, this dual-purpose table is like a cross between a novelty and something that you can actually use. While the shield might be sufficient when your attacker is only armed with a knife, you might need more than just wood to defend against a gun.

Folding Helmet Just As Protective As Bulkier Alternative

By David Ponce

The Overade cycling helmet was designed back in 2010, but it’s going to be made this year. Envisioned by Agency 360, this helmet simply folds into what appears to be half its size when not in use. Easier to store and allegedly has the same protective attributes as the regular non-folding stuff. Strangely, it looks more like a construction hat when unfolded…

Anyway, there’s no word on price or details of its construction.

Tricked Out Unbrella Protects From More Than The Rain

By David Ponce

Here there you incognito maniac you. Looking for a little protection from more than just the elements? How about this umbrella, so dangerous it can’t even be shipped to California, Massachusetts or New York? While it works just fine as a regular water protector (albeit one with a metal knuckle guard as a handle), simply give it a little twist and you can pull out a 15 inch blade that should be enough to scare off but the most determined of assailants. Like the ones with guns. Then you’re screwed.

Still, for $30, there are worse things money can buy. Let us just be adults and say: don’t be an idiot with this.
