CES 2014: Cat B100 Phone is Tough As Nails

Cat B100

Rugged and outdoorsy types, this is the phone for you. Many phones that are geared for people with active lifestyles have been released by various manufacturers over the past few years, but none are quite like the Cat B100 by Caterpillar. The brand takes “rugged” to an entirely new level, as the B100 is IP67 certified and provides MIL 810G protection. That’s coded speak for dust-proof and water-proof, and it can be immersed up to three feet deep. It’s also shock-proof and will keep on working even after it’s subjected to extreme temperature changes.

The Cat B100 features a 2.2-inch 240 x 320 resolution display and is equipped with a 3-megapixel camera. That might not be much compared to most other phones, but you have to keep in mind that this probably wasn’t meant for people who take a gazillion and one selfies or food shots a day.

Yeah, They Exist: Undies For Your iPhone

iPhone Undies

Stop flashing your iPhone around in public while it’s naked. For a couple of bucks, you can dress it up in some funky skivvies and be done with it. It basically fits over your smartphone and covers up your home button from other people’s prying eyes.

Obviously, the smartphone undies are being sold as a novelty and don’t protect your phone in any way whatsoever. It does add the unexpected feature of covering up the home button, in case you’re prone to accidentally pressing it at inopportune moments.

Each pair of smartphone undies is priced at $4.

iPhone Cases Light Up to Reveal Jolly Patterns Whenever You Get a Call

LED Phone Case

These bright and festive iPhone cases are just in time for the holiday season. The cases are clear and have special, holiday-themed patterns etched on the back. What makes them different are how they sort of magnify the effects of the LED flash for alerts feature that’s available on iOS devices.

Essentially the LED on the back of the phone flashes whenever the user has a call or message. When the case is on, it “distributes” that flash, for lack of a better word, illuminating the entire case in the process. I think it’s just right for the season.

The cases are available for $19.99 each.

Safety Mode Locks Your Phone, So You Can’t Text While Walking

I’ve sure you’ve seen the clip above a few times before. It’s of a girl using her phone while walking in the mall. She’s completely oblivious as to where she’s headed that she falls into the foundation while texting. A lot of people get into accidents or scrapes because they pay more attention to their mobile phones instead of their surroundings.

Japanese cell phone provider DoCoMo wants to change that by adding a voluntary “safety mode” feature on their phones. The phone locks when it detects that the user is on the move and displays the following warning: “Using your smartphone while walking is dangerous. The phone senses you are walking. Please stop.”

If it’s an emergency and the user does need to use his phone while walking, he can tap the close button on the screen to use the phone for ten seconds, or hold down the power button to use the phone for five seconds.

Foaster is a Toaster-Inspired Dock for Your Smartphones

Foaster

Foaster looks like a miniature toaster, but you won’t be able to toast slices of bread using it. Instead, you’ll be able to charge two of Apple’s newer-generation devices, specifically the iPhone 5, 5S, and 5C, with this. Granted, it’s not something that you absolutely need to have, but if you’re looking for a new dock with a clean and minimalist design, then this might just be the dock for you.

Foaster’s toaster-like design looks great in your kitchen (beside your blender and actual toaster, even) and eliminates messy and tangled cords since you can charge two phones at once. It comes with two built-in MFI-certified Lightning connectors and USB cables, and comes in four neat color combinations: white or black body with silver or champagne gold aluminum trim).

Rumor Mill: Google’s Nexus 5 to be Released on October 30th

Nexus5

There’s no denying that Google came up with a phone that’s worth every buck with the Nexus 4. It’s got impressive specs for the display and the hardware, and it sports a sleek design on the outside too. Forgive me if I sound biased, but it’s the second smartphone that I got and after making the switch from iOS, I’m finding that it meets most of my expectations and more.

But will Google raise the bar and do it again with the Nexus 5? The phone hasn’t been released yet, but speculation is running high regarding its specs and release date. Rumor is that Google will be unveiling their latest smartphone by the end of the month, as a case for the device was recently spotted on Amazon’s Italian site.

The release date? October 30th. It makes sense for the case to be released on the same day as the phone, right? So that’s what a lot of people out there are going with.

Rumor Mill: Leaked Images of the HTC Max

HTC Max

The One Mini isn’t the only smartphone that HTC has under wraps. Although like the One Mini, they’re doing a pretty bad job at plugging all the leaks. This time around, it’s for the HTC Max.

So from mini, we go to max. As the name implies, this smartphone is larger than your average phone. It’s rumored to come with a 5.9-inch screen with a stunning 1080p resolution. Taiwan’s ePrice claim that the Max will come with a 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor loaded with 2GB of RAM. No worries when it comes to storage, as the Max will come with 16GB of it. Continue Reading

Shibaful iPhone Case Wraps Your Phone Around Yoyogi Park

Shibaful

Love the feeling of young grass on your feet? How would you like to experience the same sensation on your hands whenever you reach for your phone? That’s what you can expect when you get the Shibaful case for your iPhone.

It’s a lush case that’s modeled after the grass at the Yoyogi Park in Tokyo. The Shibaful might look like a novelty item, but it’s actually a functional piece of art of sorts. It’s made using electrostatic flocking, where five differently-colored fiber particles are dropped from above. This causes the formation of the distinct grassy texture of the Shibaful.
