Synek Countertop Beer Tap Is Kind Of Like A Kegarator Without Being One

synek-craft-brew-dispenser-970x0

The Synek Draft System pictured above isn’t a kegerator for the simple reason that it doesn’t use any beer kegs. These are large and unwieldy anyway, and you’d have to be seriously committed to beer drinking to set a system like that up in your place. Instead, Synek uses special 1 gallon pressure pouches that are capable of handling up to 30psi of pressure, and block out UV rays. Simply fill them up at any local tap (if you know a place that’ll fill up a growler, they’ll fill these bags up too) and insert it in the device. Just like that you’ve got cold beer on tap, in quantities that are reasonable for any household. You won’t lose any carbonation on account of the special pouches, and once opened they’ll last for months and not days like a growler.

The device is doing the Kickstarter dance at the moment, and a $300 pledge will get you one machine plus 5-10 bags.

Powdered Alcohol On The Way? Maybe

powdered-alcohol

Palcohol is a powder than, when mixed with water, will turn it into Vodka or Rum. It’s great for camping trips, for example, where lugging big bottles of liquor can be a pain. Instead, the powdered alcohol will take up less space and weight, and can be mixed with water from a stream, or liquids you bring yourself (like juice). Each packet of Palcohol contains enough powder to make a standard concentration drink, if mixed with 5 ounces of liquid. The company also plans on selling flavoured versions of the powder, so that you may have a full standard drink (like Margaritas, or Cosmopolitans) without needing to add anything more than plain water.

There is some discussion over whether the product is legal for sale in the US, with approval being granted and retracted only 13 days later. Upon closer inspection, it does appear to be a technical issue related to labels, rather than a rejection of the product for sale on US shelves. Which means that if all goes well, you’ll be able to get either type of Palcohol (Vodka or Rum) by this fall, though we’re not sure for how much.

The good news is that there’s an app that’s currently in the works that makes it easier for weight watchers and health buffs.

The project is called Ceres, and it’s basically an app that lets users count calories by having them take pictures of their food. The actual counting is up to the app.

Not Just For Gaming: Smoking Out of a GameCube and the E-Cig Connection

VapeCube

What have you done with your GameCube aside from play games on it? Most people would say that’s all they did, but the dudes from the Nebula Vaping Lounge who were behind this awesome modded GameCube e-hookah can say that they at least smoked a few on theirs. E-hookahs and e-cigarettes are closely related, with the latter being such a hot topic these days.

In fact, my friends and I debated on the merits of e-cigs over our weekly Saturday brunch and things got heated pretty quickly (okay, enough with the puns!)

Freezing Metal Swizzle Sticks Are Yet Another Way To Chill A Drink

stircicles-freezable-stainless-steel-swizzle-sticks-xl

The arsenal to cool down a premium drink without diluting it keeps getting bigger. There are whisky rocks, and frozen icicle tubes and now… frozen swizzle sticks. They’re called Stricicles, and are 6 inch long stainless steel shells containing gel. Put them in the freezer for 4 hours and they’ll be ready to lower your libation’s temperature as you stir it, while undoubtedly also freezing your fingers. We imagine that’s the price you pay for a cool, undiluted drink. That and $25 for a set of 4 of these.

‘Tab’ App is the Easiest Way to Split the Bill

Tab App

Reach for ‘Tab’ the next time you need to split the bill. Dining out with friends and acquaintances is loads of fun, but there’s that 15-minute lull at the end where everyone’s just poring over the receipt so they can pay their share of the bill.

The Tab app makes the entire process quicker, easier, and less of a hassle. When the bill arrives, just fire Tab up and take a picture of the receipt. Pass the phone around so people can claim which items they ordered. Taxes and tips are divided among everyone, so each person can see how much they have to cough up before they pass the phone off to the next person.

Tab can be downloaded from iTunes and Google Play.
