Healthy Food Sculptures are Pure Win

Food Sculptures

Parents are always telling their kids not to play with their food. But on the off-chance that it can lead to this, I’d let my (future) kids play with their food all they want.

These impressive food sculptures are the work of Romania-based photographer Dan Cretu, who uses a variety of colorful fruits and vegetables to create everyday objects like motorcycles, radios, cassette tapes, and cameras. The slide-out matchbox with matchsticks is my favorite in the series. Due to the organic nature of Dan’s fresh sculptures, each one of them had to be constructed and photographed within a matter of four hours.

Hit the break to check out more sculptures from the series.

If Disney Princesses Had Regular-Sized Eyes, They’d Look Like This

Disney Princesses with Regular Eyes

Normal is relative, and when it comes to Disney’s princesses, the feature that varies the most is the size of their eyes. Ariel has noticeably large peepers, while Cinderella looks like she’s got closer-to-normal sized eyes. But what about the rest of the princesses? Well, Jen Lewis took it upon herself to edit their eyes so that each pair would be proportional to the face of the princess they belong to.

The result is what you see above and in the gallery after the break. Needless to say, most of them look odd, but maybe that’s because we’re used to seeing them with their larger-than-life eyes.

If Harry Potter and His Friends Had Instagram…

Harry Potter Instagram5

When you’ve got magic, you don’t really need the Internet or a smartphone for that matter. But let’s just say that in an alternate universe, Harry Potter and the gang got their hands on a smartphone and discovered the wonders of Instagram. If that happened, then these are the imagined posts that they would make.

They go light on the filters, but that’s probably because they all look picture perfect and camera ready most of the time. Harry, Ron, Hermione, their kids, and even Draco get in on the action in this gallery created by Jen Lewis from Buzzfeed. Hit the break to check out more imagined IG posts from the Chosen One and his friends after the break.

‘Pro Bono Promo’ Recreates Logos Using the Brands’ Actual Products

Pro Bono Promo

At first glance, these logos might not seem like much. You’ve probably already seen them thousands of times already, whether you just skipped over them while grocery shopping or actually use them on a daily basis. But if you take a closer look, then you’ll see why these logos are not your ordinary hand-drawn or computer-rendered logos: they were made using the actual products they represent.

They’re part of a street art series called “Pro Bono Logos” by artist Dorota Pankowska. Armed with bottles of Cheez Whiz, jars of Maxwell House, and tubes of Colgate, Dorota took to the streets and recreated the logos by smearing cheese spread and coffee grounds on otherwise clean walls.

‘The Deep’ Transforms Old Tools Into Sea Creatures

Got some old tools in your toolbox? Thinking of throwing most of them out, especially the rusty ones? Well, before you do that, you might want to check out what animator PES did with his old tools. He’s known for his creative shorts that feature everyday objects in not-so-ordinary ways, and “The Deep” is his latest work that does exactly just that.

In it, PES transforms a bevy of old tools and random scrapes like chains, gears, presses, keys, and calipers into creatures from the deep. From the aquatic backdrop with undersea plant life to undersea creatures like fish and eel, PES has recreated them all using stuff you can find in a toolbox or at your local hardware store.

The short was originally released back in 2010 but it wasn’t until recently that PES uploaded the HD version to his channel.

Très Magnifique: Disney Princesses Decked Out in Pop Culture Halloween Costumes

Disney Princesses in Costume

As someone who grew up watching Disney movies and wishing for princessy stuff to happen in real life, I think this gallery of Disney princesses dressed in pop culture-themed Halloween costumes is nothing short of awesome. Most of the princesses stick to one persona. Some are damsels in distress, a couple are rebellious and angst-filled, while most are just too kind and have their toes stepped on by others most of the time.

So it’s definitely interesting to see another side of them, even though it wasn’t done by Disney. This gallery was created by Isaiah Stephens, who gave each princess a Halloween makeover by dressing them up in costumes that somehow reflect their character a bit. There’s Aurora as Daenerys Targaryen, Pocahontas as Katniss Everdeen, Snow White as Wonder Woman (she looks super!), Jasmine as Chun-Li, and more.

Check out more from the series in the gallery after the break.

Squirrels are Superheroes

Squirrel Hero

Squirrels are superheroes in their own little way. They’re apparently responsible for planting a whole bunch of trees every year because they forgot where they buried their acorns. Even if it’s unintentional, we’ll take it as face value and consider these little, adorable creatures heroes either way.

Taking the “hero” bit more literally is Santiago-Perez from Spain, who used PhotoShop to transform your ordinary, run-of-the-mill squirrel into some of the most powerful and well-known superheroes of all time, including Spider-Man, Iron Man, the Hulk, and even Batman. A Yoda squirrel is thrown somewhere into the mix, too. Check out the rest of the images in the series after the break.

Epic Classic Paintings and Superheroes Mash-up

Classic Superhero Paintings Little Supergirl” by aards2

Thousands of artists flock to Worth1000 every day, where art-centric competitions are held every day with site credits given away as prizes. Over the years, a number of “Superhero ModRen” photo effects contests have been run on the site. “ModRen” is a wordplay of sorts that combines “modern” and “renaissance,” which describes the type of edited images that users are submitting for this category.

In case you haven’t figured it out yet, the contest essentially challenges community members to recreate classic Renaissance paintings while injecting a modern, superhero twist into it. You can find more of interesting entries from the contest after the break.
