Somabar Is A Robotic Drink Maker For The Home

somabar-3

Making tasty cocktails can take a little bit of skill, which is why many people just opt for a good ole beer or wine when drinking. But Somabar hopes to take most of the effort out of the equation by giving you the ability to make hundreds of cocktails at the simple press of a button. The WiFi-enabled appliance carries six special pods that you are meant to fill up with your own combination of liquors, spirits and chasers, as well as a smaller ‘bitters’ pod. Once you’ve told the related application just what’s in these pods, you’ll instantly have access to a list of available drinks.

When you press that button on the app, your SOMABAR will take the ingredients from scratch, infuse bitters (if you are in the mood) and dynamically mix them in precise quantities using positive displacement pumps before pouring out your craft cocktail in less than 5 seconds. The mixing comes from a combination of fluid dynamics, kinetic energy, and turbulence created by static vanes. What that means is fewer moving parts to maintain, as well as fast and perfectly mixed cocktails. Our on-board software and sensors make it easy to make new recipes and manage your inventory (liquid gold).

The pods are dishwasher safe, easily attach and detach from the device, and can be stored in the fridge so your booze is cold.

It’s a $399 pledge for now, with expected delivery in July 2015.

Doritos-Flavored Mountain Dew Being Tested

dewitos-1

Frito-Lay and Pepsi Co. sure week to have been smoking up the good stuff lately. As part of a test at Kent State University in Ohio, college students have been offered the “opportunity” to try different flavours of Mountain Dew being cooked up. One of these was an ungodly mix of Doritos and Dew, cleverly called Dewitos. Yes, the drink is supposed to taste like a swig of Dew after a bite of Doritos. According to Reddit user ‘joes_nipples’ on Reddit, “It tasted like orange with a doritos aftertaste. It tasted like straight doritos afterwards though. Weirdest thing I’ve ever drunk.”

Other flavours on trial were Lemon Ginger and Mango Habanero, but we’re particularly intrigued by the Dewitos. Heck, we’d be down to trying some, if anyone wants to ship a few bottles to OhGizmo! HQ.

When A 6-Pack Of Beer Isn’t Enough, There’s A 99-Pack

99-pack-of-beer

We’re not sure why you wouldn’t just buy a darn keg of beer, but if you absolutely must get your malted beverages in a cardboard box, you should know that an Austin brewery has you covered. Austin Beerworks is selling a 99-pack of beer called the Peacemaker, and it’s going for $99. Our math skills put that at $1 a beer, which isn’t too shabby a price. The monstrosity weighs 82 lbs., is 7 feet long and presents logistical nightmares that are of little significance to people who are just looking to get hammered, we suppose. It won’t fit in your fridge for instance. And you won’t be able to carry it alone, for another instance. But hey, it’s a 99-pack of beer, and how often do you come across that? Check out their website, instagram and other social media to find out how to get your own.

Ice Ball Flavor-It Adds a Little Something to Your Water

Ice Ball

Too much soda will make you diabetic. Too much booze will screw up your liver. Too much coffee with give you yellow teeth. So, really, the only drink that you should have too much of is water. So things can get bland or boring sometimes, drinking plain old H2O. But that’s where the Ice Ball Flavor-It comes along.

It’s a circular mold that you’re supposed to fill with water after popping in the fruit of your choice. Just put slices of strawberries, lemon, lime, melon, or whatever fruit you feel like “drinking,” add water, and throw the entire thing into the freezer. Pop it out the next day and drop it into a pitcher of water to enjoy a cool and refreshing fruity treat.

The Ice Ball Flavor-It is priced at $18.

Jones Soda Releases Poutine Flavored Soda

Poutine-Drink

Poutine is a French Canadian delicacy that involves topping fries with cheese curds and scaldingly hot gravy. The gravy then melts the cheese and creates a dish that’s as delicious as it appears to be artery-clogging. It’s an acquired taste for some, but being (somewhat) French Canadian myself, I can assure you it’s excellent. Now, Jones Soda has released a Poutine flavored soda, which it describes as “a nice balance of rich, savory gravy over a starchy potato base, and accented with those fatty, cheesy notes you expect in a plate of poutine.” They had us at Poutine, and we’re happy to see that it’ll be available in select regions of Canada, including of course Quebec.

Jones Soda makes other “special” flavours, such as Turkey and gravy, for Thanksgiving.

Drinks in Disguise: iFlask is a Flask That Looks Like an iPhone

iPhone Flask

Clearly, there are a lot of liquids you can pour into these iFlasks that shouldn’t be consumed while you’re at work or attending some show or event where those said drinks are prohibited. Those types of liquids aren’t the ones we’re encouraging you to fill these iFlasks with, obviously, because that’s just one classic example of a supposedly neat gizmo used in a totally wrong way.

It’s pretty clear what the iFlask is, based on its name alone. In case you haven’t figured it out, it’s a flask that’s shaped and designed to look like an iPhone. It can hold up to 5 ounces of your beverage of choice discreetly. In fact, most people wouldn’t be any wiser unless they happen to grab hold of your “phone” and notice something sloshing inside of it.

+4.5 Paper Cup is a Cup and Stirrer in One

Paper Cup with Stirrer

While there are an assortment of portable canteens and cups available that let you have a drink or sip your Joe on the go, none can provide you with the dual functionality of the +4.5 Paper Cup. At first glance, it looks just like a typical paper cup with a handle attached to it. But look closer and you’ll see that there’s more to that handle than meets the eye.

Aside from functioning as a handle, it also has a stiff tearable portion that functions as a stirrer. This way, you’ll be able to prepare drinks with the added convenience of having almost everything you need in one paper cup.

Pepsi Special Blocks Fat While Letting You Chug Down Sweet Calories

Pepsi Special

One of the hardest parts of being on a diet is having to wean yourself off of soda for the time-being. It’s especially hard if you chug a can or two with every meal and feel like your food just doesn’t sit right anymore if you go without it.

Fortunately (at least, for weight-watchers in Japan), there’s a new variant of Pepsi called ‘Pepsi Special’ that promises to block fat, even while you’re chugging down sweet calories with every gulp. Pepsi explains that the Special variant contains dextrin, which is a water-soluble fiber supplement that makes you feel full and absorb less fat from the food that you’re eating, kind of like some of the diet drinks that are currently in the market today.

Pepsi doesn’t offer any information about the amount of sugar in the drink, but it seems like a really roundabout way of trying to lose weight. But hey, if you’re anything like the dieters I mentioned earlier, then maybe this drink’s for you. It will only be available in Japan though, for $2 a pop starting on November 13th.
