Interactive Dress Moves and Glows When Someone’s Looking

Light Up Dresses

Some people just love it when the spotlight’s on them. Others, however, are not too keen on the extra attention. But if dresses had personalities, then these pieces by designer Ying Gao belong to the first category. They’re plain frocks at first glance, but they’ll literally light up and move once they feel your gaze upon them.

Gao worked with robotics designer Simon Laroche to create the two dresses collectively known as (No)where (Now)here. The dresses are equipped with eye-tracking sensors and motors; the former, to detect when someone’s looking at it, and the latter, to trigger the wave-like movement of the fabric. The glow is generated by the photoluminescent thread sown all over it.

Eco-Bride of the Year Makes Wedding Gown from 10,000 Recycled Bread Bag Clips

Wedding Gown

Movies often depict how little girls look forward to their wedding day, even though it’s probably still decades away. That’s not always true because some women couldn’t care less how their weddings went, just as long as they ended up with the man (or even woman) of their dreams.

Then there’s women like Stephanie Watson. She planned and looked forward to her wedding for almost ten years, but with good reason: she was still collecting the ‘material’ for her wedding dress. It’s extravagant, it’s custom-made, and it’s truly one-of-a-kind. That’s because she made it herself using over 10,000 recycled bread bag clips. Now, not everyone here is up to making a dress such as this one, but with all the effort Stephanie has put into making this dress, it has made her wedding day even more special.

Robotic Spider Dress: High Fashion With a Creepy, Crawly Twist

Robotic Spider Dress

Robotics collides with high fashion to produce this one-of-a-kind and truly creepy robotic spider dress. It might look like a typical little black dress most women have in their closets, but the complicated robotic machinery attached to it sets it miles apart from the rest.

The dress was created by Dutchdesigner Anouk Wipprecht, who worked with Austrian software developer Daniel Schatzmayr for the robotic parts. It isn’t called the ‘robotic spider dress’ for nothing, because the legs of the mechanical arachnid move when movement is detected nearby. It sounds like a truly creepy piece of garment–but as you shall soon see in the video after the break, it’s even creepier to look at.

Twitter Dress Displays #Hashtags and Lets the Wearer Make a Fashion Statement in Real-Time

Twitter Dress

If you’re in the market for a dress that will grab everyone’s attention the moment you walk through the doors, then this is it. It’s the Twitter Dress by Cute Circuit, which was put together by embedding LEDs and hooking it up to display tweets that were sent to a Twitter account that it was linked to online.

It was donned by ex-Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger, who wore it to the launch of a new 4G network from Everything Everywhere in the UK. Fans who wanted to see their messages displayed on the dress were instructed to send their tweets to @EE or post them with the #tweetthedress hashtag.

Hit the break for a video showing off Nicole and her dress at the event.

R2-D2 Dress from Black Milk Clothing Will Make You Look Va-Va-Voom!

R2-D2 Dress from Black Milk Clothing

Some people express their love for their favorite movie or comic book franchise by dressing up as their favorite characters. (In short, by doing cosplays.) Those who feel like they can’t pull that off turn to themed clothing instead, like this ultra-sexy R2-D2 dress from Black Milk that’s officially licensed by Lucasfilm.

Male fans will have to wait for another clothing company to churn out Star Wars-related stuff, but I have a feeling they’ll be able to appreciate this hot number just as much as the female ones. For obvious reasons.

Hit the break for a video teasing the rest of Black Milk’s range of Star Wars clothing.
