The thing about writing a deals column is that after a while you start getting a little jaded. So many laptops, so many desktops. What’s there to say about them, really? It’s not that they’re all created equal, far from that. It’s just… Well, take a look at this one for example. It’s a really decent deal, when you think about it. An $850 desktop from Dell, the Vostro 270s, gets a $320 price drop. That’s a lot. And for that you get this: “4GB RAM, 1TB Hard Drive, 8-in-1 card reader, DVD burner, Wireless-N, two USB 3.0 ports, bundled Keyboard + Mouse, pre-installed Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS and more.” You know… a decent amount for the money. It’s just that it’s yet another assortment of this much RAM, this much space, in this or that form factor. It’s not super exciting for the writer. But for you, the reader and potential buyer, you could be looking at some pretty sweet savings. So we keep on trucking and stop complaining.

Now look at this, a desktop computer and a 21 inch LCD for $620. That’s pretty decent, especially considering you get a Core i5 Quad-core processor with 8GB RAM and a 1TB HDD. Also included: “Wireless-N, DVD burner, 8-in-1 card reader, bundled Keyboard + Mouse, 90-day premium phone support, Adobe Photoshop Elements + Adobe Premiere Elements 9.0, 15-months McAfee Security Center subscription and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit OS.” Yeah, I mean, this isn’t the most exciting stuff here, obviously. But if you’re running some small outfit and are thinking about upgrading a bunch of your computers, this seems pretty solid.
