As Secure As Data Gets: Cryptex Combination Lock USB Drive

Mechanical Combination Lock USB Drive

You can encrypt the data on your USB– or you can protect your files the old-school way by using a combination lock. The concept isn’t exactly new (see this Combination Lock made specifically for flash drives released a few years back.) However, Cryptex is different in the sense that the USB drive itself is what’s protected by your code.

Cryptex is a special container which has mechanical combination lock (rotating rings with letters or digits), which people used hundreds years ago to keep secrets. Inside the cylinder there’s a container, where you can keep piece of paper with secret data.

Of course, the drive is rendered useless if you somehow forget the 5-digit combination you’ve set the lock to. It’s still awesome anyway. It’s available online for €35.90 (about $49.)

Bleep Smart Cable Charges Your Phone, Backs Up Your Data

Bleep

People mourn for more than just their phones when they lose them. In fact, most are more worried about the data on their phones rather than the actual devices. Tel Aviv-based Company Musers is well aware of this fact, so they’ve come up with Bleep. It’s a smart cable that backs up your phone’s data while you’re charging it so you’re covered in case you lose your phone or damage it beyond repair. It also protects you against hardware crashes, which sometimes happen when you least expect it.

Bleep can back up your messages, photos, music, videos, contacts, calendar, and app history, among other things. It’s also designed to work with its companion app which is password-protected for your data’s security.

Ninja Star USB: Shuriken Save Your Data

Ninja Star USB

The Ninja Star USB isn’t exactly the most discrete flash drive on the market, but it’s definitely one of the most attractive ones out there. As you can see, it’s shaped like a shuriken, the weapon of choice of stealthy ninjas, and while it’s not as sharp as its namesake, it can hold 8 gigabytes worth of data, be it documents, pictures, music, or movie files.

The Ninja Star USB can’t fight deadly computer viruses on its own, but it shuriken keep your data safe as long as you keep it safe. (Pun intended–sorry, I couldn’t resist!) It’s available online for $15.50.

FaceCrypt Lets You Secure Your Data With Your Mug

FaceCrypt

Passwords, PINs, voice recognition, biometrics. People have figured out hacks for all of those, so you’re better off using multiple security programs to safeguard your stuff. One such program that you should definitely consider is FaceCrypt. It’s an iOS app where your face essentially becomes the key to access your encrypted files and data.

The great thing about it is that aside from the main vault, you have the option to store files in drawers. Aside from biometric face recognition, you can also restrict access to these drawers by adding passwords and pattern access to make them more secure.
