Silent Power PC Uses Copper Foam For Cooling Instead Of Noisy Fans

silent-power-pc-2

Have you ever turned off all the electronics in your room? Notice just how much quieter everything is? Despite being able to tune these droning sounds out after a while, they’re quite real and it’s only once they’re completely gone that we realize how loud they were. If you manage to get your hands on a Silent Power PC, however, you’ll have that much less white noise to deal with. Its salient feature is its use of an innovative copper foam to dissipate heat, instead of the traditional fans. Since the foam presents such a high surface area and copper is so conductive, the PC never reaches excessive temperatures during regular use. The lowest end setup you can get comes with an Intel quad-core i7-4785T 2.2 GHz processor, 8 GB of RAM, and a 500 GB hard drive and should cost around $935. The company’s plan is to be on the market in 2015, after they’ve reached their crowdfunding goals. A post on their blog, however, suggests that Paypal is putting up some roadblocks and have seized their account pending clarifications on their business model. This is standard practice for Paypal, unfortunately, so hopefully the company will clear that up soon and resume work on bringing this innovative PC to market.

No More Sweaty Posteriors This Summer

By David Ponce

There’s really no other feeling greater than getting up after a few hours of work at a computer with the back of your legs and butt stuck to your pants from all that sweat you produced. It’s grand, really. But if you’ve just grown sick of it and would rather not partake in the joys of sweaty butts, you can get the above Aero Seat Cooling Cushion. Powered by a battery, it’ll pump around 190 litres of air per minute (on the high setting) and around 95 litres per minute (on low) through special channels in the material. This is supposed to keep you cool and we believe it, although in our AC-free offices we’d be better off pumping sub-zero coolant instead of just air. But hey, you can’t have it all. This particular device will set you back $88.

The TILT Stand For MacBook Pro Looks Awesome

By David Ponce

Laptops should be called lapburners: there aren’t many models that don’t get at least a little hot. Of course there’s a ton of stands on the market that aim to keep your legs and privates cooler but most add bulk, simply elevate the machine and don’t look all that great. Well, the TILT is a Kickstarter project that we feel will take off. It’s a stand made specifially for the MacBook Pro that clips right into the base and features passive and active cooling. Made to look as if it was part of the machine it aims to cool, it adds only 0.6″ of thickness but will actively push hot air out the back if you connect it to a free USB plug. No plug free? That’s ok, because even without active cooling, the TILT will keep your MacBook Pro off your lap. There’s even a standard 1/4″-20 tripod thread for remote mounting.

It will retail for $55 once on the market, but you can pre-order it now for $45 and contribute to making this project a reality. As of this writing, they’ve raised $2,236 of the $8k they’re after with over a month left. Yeah, this thing will sell.
