This Is A BeardBeanie. Because, You Know, Why Not?

By David Ponce

Combination toque and face mask, the Beadbeanies are meant to keep your head as well as your face warm. They do make you look somewhat terrorist-y, but at least they won’t make you look like you’re about to rob something, as the balaclava tends to. Perfect for skiing or scaring old ladies in the elevator, each one is lovingly hand made and sells for around $50.

BodyMetrics Is The Body Scanner You’ll Want To Step Into

By David Ponce

Americans are getting used to the idea of full body scanners. Or maybe not. Either way, the BodyMetrics 3D scanner has much tamer goals than to sniff out your underwear explosives. Step into one and 8 PrimeSense 3D sensors will map your body’s shape and measurements, quickly and accurately creating 100 data points. Once your shape has been determined, the retail store will be better able to offer you clothing that complements your specific shape. Better yet, you’ll be able to store your profile online for later access when shopping from home. No more guesswork, or wishful thinking.

There’s only one BodyMetrics scanner at the moment. It’s at New Look, a global clothing retailer, at their newest location in the Westfield Stratford shopping complex. There is a chance you’ll be seeing more of these if the companies are successful in convincing other stores to go for them.

Ashiato Footprint Sandals Let Your Kids Stomp Around Like Animals

Ashiato Footprint Sandals (Images courtesy Kiko+)
By Andrew Liszewski

I remember a time when social status was dependent on how cool the tread on the bottom of your shoes were. That was many, many years ago, of course. But if I had a pair of sneakers that left behind bear paw imprints wherever I roamed, I would have ruled my grade one class.

Times have changed, but I’m hopeful that kids will still appreciate these Ashiato sandals which feature rubber animal footprints on the underside. Including those from a cat, owl, gecko, monkey and something called a ‘zaurus’ which is an animal I’m apparently unfamiliar with. The sandals don’t look like the best solution for everyday wear and tear, but for a trip to the beach I’m pretty sure your kids will occupy themselves for hours on end, leaving behind mysterious footprint trails. Available for ~$29 to ~$32 (€22 to €24) from Kiko+, depending on the size.

Game Boy Dress Isn’t Limited To Just Hallowe’en Parties

Game Boy Dress (Images courtesy Etsy)
By Andrew Liszewski

While no where near as racy as the Game Boy print swimsuit we brought you a couple of months ago, this Game Boy dress will still provide loads of opportunity for double entendres and innuendo at any Hallowe’en party. “Press my buttons”, “insert a cartridge”, “where’s that Tetris piece I need?”, “up, up, down, down, left, right, left, right”, etc. For better or for worse they’re all at your disposal. But if you were hoping to score one of these for the 31st, you’ll need to get your $78 order in with Etsy seller SewOeno before October 10th to ensure it’s completed and arrives on time.

Rufus Roo ‘Big Pocket’ Travel Jacket Lets You Fight Back Against Airline Luggage Fees

Rufus Roo BIG POCKET Travel Jacket (Image courtesy Rufus Roo)
By Andrew Liszewski

You might be able to find a sweet deal for a flight online, but once you get to the airport and realize how much extra you’re going to have to pay to check just a single bag, it stops being so sweet. The only solution is to pack as light as possible, hopefully squeezing all your clothes into a carry-on, or suck-it-up and wear something like the Rufus Roo.

In short, it’s a light travel jacket with a collection of regular and super-sized pockets that lets you carry up to 22 lbs. worth of crap, including shoes, shirts, pants, books, and even laptops and wine bottles. You’re going to look like a complete tool while making your way through an airport with it on, and it can’t be the most comfortable thing to wear during your flight, but at least you’re saving a few bucks right? Available now for ~$47 (£29.95) for large and medium adult sizes and ~$39 (£24.95) if you want to turn your kids into vacation pack mules too.

Burton’s Mix Master Gloves Wirelessly Control Your iPhone Or iPod

Burton Mix Master Gloves (Images courtesy Burton)
By Andrew Liszewski

While they’re probably designed for x-treme sports types who want to enjoy their music while careening down a mountain on their snowboards, I actually think they’d be just as useful in the dead of winter when walking to work. I just wish these new Mix Master gloves from Burton weren’t $159.95 a pair. On the back of the left glove is a rudimentary set of playback controls which I assume lets you skip tracks, adjust the volume and pause the music coming from your iPhone or iPod Touch. So that you don’t have to take your gloves off and remove the device from your pocket when it’s cold outside.

It wirelessly connects to either device (and probably even the iPad) using a small receiver that attaches to their dock connector, and an even smaller transmitter that’s stashed somewhere inside the glove. They’ve even got an impressive 100-foot radius, and the remote can be removed from the glove and used to control your music in your car, or at home. The gloves themselves feature a waterproof ‘DRYRIDE Insane Membrane’, genuine leather exterior and a quick-drying microfiber lining. So I have no doubts they’ll work just as well when it comes to keeping your hands warm and dry.

No Power Laces, But Nike’s New Air MAG Sneakers Are Still Pretty Awesome

Nike Air Mag Sneakers (Images courtesy Highsnobiety)
By Andrew Liszewski

It might be lacking the power laces I’ve dreamed of for years, but Nike’s new Air MAG sneakers are still close enough to the pair Marty donned in 2015 to make me really sad I’ll probably never get my hands on them. Powered by a rechargeable battery pack good for about 5 hours of use, the sneakers light up on the side of the sole, on the heel and even feature an electroluminescent NIKE logo on the tongue strap. They’re about as close as you’re going to get to the pair seen on screen in Back To The Future Part II. That is, if you’re able to outbid others since they’re limited to 1,500 pairs being auctioned off on eBay. But it’s hard to be too disappointed since the proceeds are going to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Nike Could Reveal BTTF-Inspired Shoes With Power Laces Today: Please Be Real, Please Be Real, Please Be Real, Please Be Real, Please Be Real

Nike Air Mag Sneakers? (Image courtesy YouTube)
By Andrew Liszewski

My parents remember exactly where they were when man first landed on the moon. But as a gadget blogger, my most vivid ‘do you remember where you were when…?’ memory was when the original iPhone was first revealed. Today could be another one of those days though. Nike has apparently invited a select group of journalists to Los Angeles for a super secret event, including the folks from Highsnobiety who posted the following photos of what awaited them at their hotel.

It's About Time (Images courtesy Highsnobiety)

A black box labeled ‘IT’S ABOUT TIME’ with a pair of futuristic Back To The Future Part II inspired sunglasses inside. And two days ago, the following viral video, McFly’s Closet, was uploaded to YouTube by one ‘DocEmmettBrown88′ which shows a room filled with blinking Nike ‘MAG’ sneakers.

So all of the clues, including the fact they patented self-lacing shoes last year, point to Nike finally producing a real pair of shoes as seen in BTTF Pt. II. Complete with a self-lacing mechanism, which their first attempt, the Hyperdunks from a few years ago, were sorely lacking. Of course maybe I’m getting my hopes up too high here, but maybe, just maybe, Nike will come through for all of us BTTF fans this time.

Wooden Tie Probably Not Appropriate Attire If You Work Next To A Campfire

Wood Ties (Images courtesy The Green Head)
By Andrew Liszewski

Well here’s an interesting take on eco-friendly clothing. Instead of being made of fabrics from sustainable sources, or engineered materials that will stand the test of time. Wood Thumb makes their unique ties from upcycled, reclaimed wood. And it’s not like they’ve created a process that turns the wood into a pulp and eventually some wood fiber-based cloth. Nope, the ties are simply made from tie-shaped segments of wood held together with thick cords. At $34 for the large and/or small version they’re considerably cheaper than a silk alternative too. Just be aware, your hipster-fu needs to be through the roof to pull this look off.
