This Machete is A Spatula

machete-spatula-1-595x595

Or is this spatula a machete? Whichever way you choose to look at it, the Machete Spatula is one badass looking piece of BBQing instrumentation. And if flipping your burgers with what looks like a terrifying weapon isn’t manly enough, there are not one but three bottle-opening hooks on the side of the blade. We’re getting some giggles imagining the scene that would have you popping some caps off beer bottles, while flailing this large chunk of metal around, only to settle down and flip a burger or two. That’s what BBQ fun is all about, and you can get the Machete Spatula for £11.99, or around $19USD.

The GoBQ Is A Foldable, Ultra-Portable Grill

gobq-1

Being able to carry your BBQ anywhere you go seems to be an increasingly popular ability these days, as seen in products like the BBQ Briefcase we covered a while back. But even that one didn’t have the ability to roll up into a bag, like the GoBQ does. Made from a fireproof silicone-coated fiberglass fabric that can handle temperatures up to 1,200° F (648° C), the 8 lbs. GoBQ unfurls into a “14 x 14-in (35.6 x 35.6-cm) cooking grate that offers more cooking area than the Weber Smokey Joe 14.” A chain-mail like charcoal holder keeps your heat source well ventilated, and the folding legs to which the entire assembly attaches are easily collapsed and transported. The special fabric is also insulating, helping to keep more of the heat within and keeping the outside cooler; we still wouldn’t touch it when grilling, but you get the idea. It’s a good, convenient way to transport your grilling gear anywhere you want, and at $120, is priced just right. If fully-funded, you can expect to catch the tail end of Summer 2015, with a projected shipment date of August.

The Briefcase BBQ Is Stealthy, Practical

Screen Shot 2015-03-17 at 10.49.49 PM

BBQs come in all shapes and sizes, and not all of them are practical. The typical round grills you see in parks during the summer are just fine for cooking your meats. But not so great at stacking efficiently in the trunk, and even less so at being incognito. Not that we can think of a single good reason for why’d you’d want to walk around with a BBQ disguised as a briefcase, but now you know this product exists. The Briefcase BBQ is a 12 1/2″ H x 8 3/4″ W x 2 3/4″ D portable grill that weighs 4lbs., and uses charcoal for fuel. It’s $79.

For Late Night BBQs: Flashlight Grilling Spatula

Flashlight Grilling Spatula

I’m sure you’ve felt it once or twice in your life. When it’s dark out and the night is young, that craving, that yearning for meat…cooking on the grill, with the smell of spices and barbecue sauce filling the air. Having a late-night barbecue isn’t the most practical thing in the world, but a utensil that might just help you make it happen is the Grillight.

It’s a stainless steel grilling spatula with a built-in LED light so you can see what you’re cooking, even in the dark. Use it in the morning, use it in the afternoon, use it when the sun’s about to set and when you need extra illumination. The Grillight is dishwasher safe and runs on two AA batteries.

It’s available online for $34.95.

This Is A Handheld Food Smoker

Screen Shot 2014-07-21 at 9.28.55 PM

BBQ traditionalists will probably have a fit at the sight of the Handheld Food Smoker, but having had the chance to try a meal prepared with a similar contraption, we’d like to tell them to keep a open mind. Clearly you won’t be making any fall-off-the-bone ribs with this smoke, seeing as it’s cold. But you will be able to infuse a bit of a smoky flavour into some meals, just as they’re about to be served. The device holds smouldering wood shavings, the smoke from which is blown through a tube thanks to its internal fan. If you get a little dome to go over your plate, you can fill it up with smoke and serve it like that to your guests. They’ll be delighted as they pull the dome off and the smoke spills out, while the food will pick up a tiny bit of the scent. How much flavour it actually picks up, however, really depends on the type of food being served; in our experience, we noticed that leafy greens absorb it a lot while the salmon tartare they were mixed with ended up tasting just like salmon.

$99 gets you the smoker, as well as a “1/2-oz jar of 100% natural kiln-dried hickory and applewood shavings harvested from renewable California orchards, four AA batteries, and a stand.”

jaggrill_small

If you don’t think that owning this table will crown you king of the neighbourhood, you better think again. The Jag Grill is an octagonal table with an integrated firepit and dome, and grilling stations at every seat. Throw the heavy meats in the center, while each one of your guests is free to work on his sides to his heart’s content. Adequate airflow means your coals burn hot, while a modular design makes for easier cleaning. Just make sure to strengthen the locks on the door leading to your backyard, as yu may end up with a few more guests than anticipated.

It’s $2,500, although the website seems to be having some troubles at the moment.
