TravelCard Smartphone Charger Fits In Your Wallet

TravelCard Charger0

There are many credit card-shaped charger adapters out there, but no actual chargers that fit right into your wallet–until now, that is. The TravelCard is slightly thicker than your average credit card and it holds up to five hours of extra talk time, 4.5 hours of Internet use, or 98 hours of standby time. That’s pretty impressive considering its compact size.

Using it is as simple as 1-2-3: just fish it out of your wallet, plug it into your phone’s hub, and you’re good to go. It comes built with either an integrated Lightning or Micro USB charging cable, so it’s compatible with most iOS and Android devices.Continue Reading

Carbon Solar Watch Can Charge Your Battery On the Go

Energy Bionics Watch

Power banks come in handy when you need to recharge your device and are nowhere near a power outlet. Phone cases with built-in battery packs are another option, but they’re limited in availability to certain models only. An alternative to these is the Carbon solar watch by Energy Bionics.

Aside from being a classic-looking timepiece, it also functions as a backup power source for your smartphone or mobile devices that charge via a microUSB port.Continue Reading

In Potholes, There is Power: Tech Harnesses Vibrations to Charge Your Phone

Vibration Tech Charges Phones

Nobody likes driving on roads filled with potholes. Not only is it a huge pain to everyone on board, but it can also damage your car (and ruin people’s moods), especially on long drives. There’s nothing that can be done about car damage, but this concept might just change people’s perceptions towards potholes.

This wasn’t the goal of Dr. Xudong Wang from the University of Wisconsin when he teamed up with researchers researchers from Sun Yat-sen University in China. Rather, their goal was to come up with something that’ll make the most of all the bumps and humps, and they did so by developing a novel material that generates energy every time it’s jostled or moved.

The nanogenerator takes advantage of a common piezoelectric polymer material called polyvinylidene fluoride, or PVDF. Piezoelectric materials can generate electricity from a mechanical force. The researchers incorporated zinc oxide nanoparticles into a PVDF thin film to trigger formation of the piezoelectric phase that enables it to harvest vibration energy.

No timeframe yet for when this concept will actually be released commercially.

May The Force Be With Every Recharge: Star Wars Lightsaber Power Bank

Star Wars Darth Vader Lightsaber Battery Charger

Bored with the usual crop of power banks that are available in the market? If you’re a huge fan of Star Wars and are looking for something other than the usual rectangular power banks, then you might want to check the Star Wars Darth Vader Lightsaber Battery Charger. It essentially looks like the handle of a lightsaber, with the microUSB ports located at its base.

Since it is a lightsaber charger, it also has LED light that glows red with the flick of a switch. So you can, you know, play pretend once in a while when you’re bored and when you need to recharge the power bank or charge up any of your devices.

SolePower Charges Your Smartphone One Step At A Time

SolePower

SolePower is another contraption that lets you charge your smartphone through a very basic action that everyone does at some point during the day: walk. Similar concepts have been proposed before, but a group is finally taking action and their proposed device is called SolePower. It’s dubbed as a “power-generating shoe” that allows the wearer to charge portable electronics like smartphones, MP3 players, and tablets as they walk.

Instead of being embedded into the actual shoe, SolePower is a separate, removable insole that you can swap and insert into whatever pair you’ve chosen to wear.

Power Shorts: Shake Your Bon Bons for Power

Power Shorts

Is your phone running low on power? That should be no problem if you’re wearing shorts with the Power Pocket, because all you’ll have to do to charge up your phone is shake your booty. Clearly it’s not the easiest or most practical way to charge your battery, but it’s probably one of the funnest, especially if you’re in the right place, with the right people.

The shorts were created by Vodafone with the help of researchers from the University of Southampton. They were unveiled to attendees of UK’s Isle of Wight music fest, who I’m sure had a blast trying it out.
